Basic Qualifications
BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required
Ability to travel up to 25% to other Howmet facilities. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
Preferred Qualifications
BS Degree in the following disciplines: Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Technology highly desiredMinimum of two years' experience in machine design/engineering Experience working in an engineering and manufacturing environmentCompetent with SolidWorks, and familiar with AutoCAD softwareExperience with large designs incorporating multiple subassemblies a plus Able to manage multiple design projects, generating complete drawings packages with BOM’s.Experience with 6-axis articulating arm roboticsExperience with robotic mechanical and electrical systems including pneumatics, sensors, tooling, measurement feedback systems, and basic design robustness a plusBasic understanding of controls and servo systemsExperience with tooling and fixture designExperience in reading electrical prints a plusStrong verbal and written communication skillsThis position will be in our Howmet Research Center (HRC) Manufacturing Technology Group, located in Whitehall, Michigan. This position will support projects worldwide, for all Howmet Aerospace facilities.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the research, design, and development of innovative manufacturing technology related to aerospace investment casting processes, and robotic and automation equipment to specific customer requirements. In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting current technology in use at various Howmet Plants, working with design teams, plant automation technicians, operators, and vendors.
The Mechanical Engineer will follow designs through the build phase and implementation of equipment into production including establishing PM’s and critical spare parts.
Key Responsibilities
Development, design and implementation of new, advanced manufacturing equipment and automation.Provide project support through the build and installation process across multiple Howmet facilities.Support engineering and manufacturing teams to improve existing processes.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support project designs though the build process including debug and runoff.Manage all project design changes/revisions.Prepare concepts for customer review as well as assist with customer specifications.Assist in the troubleshooting of various corporate processes, cost reductions, and product research and development.
