Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing precision tooling and fixturing for alignment and assembly stations. This position requires creating fabrication-ready mechanical drawings and documentation while collaborating with suppliers and machine shops to source components and manage builds. You will support product-level mechanical design and integration alongside optics and electronics teams, as well as set up and manage a CAD environment. Responsibilities + Design and develop precision tooling and fixturing for alignment and assembly stations. + Create fabrication-ready mechanical drawings and documentation. + Collaborate with suppliers and machine shops to source components and manage builds. + Support product-level mechanical design and integration alongside optics and electronics teams. + Set up and manage CAD environment, preferably using SolidWorks or Fusion 360. + Contribute to semi-automated station design and lab equipment setup. + Navigate multiple concurrent projects with organization and follow-through. Essential Skills + Proficiency in SolidWorks or Fusion 360. + Experience in mechanical design and new product development. + Experience with tooling and fixture design, particularly for semi-automated stations. + 2-3 years of hands-on mechanical design experience. + Strong CAD skills and familiarity with design for fabrication. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (GED plus 5-8 years in relevant roles). + Experience with precision machining, EDM, and prototype tooling. + Comfortable in fast-paced, startup environments with shifting priorities. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills. + Must pass pre-screening/compliance Work Environment You will be reporting alongside Electrical and Optical Engineers within a team of about 10 engineers located onsite in San Diego, with an additional office in Colorado. The work hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The position is based onsite at UCSD Campus in La Jolla, CA. Eligible for Holiday Pay and 5 days of California Sick Time. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $49.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
