**Your day at NTT DATA**
The Mechanical Engineer is a seasoned subject matter expert, accountable for the design and construction of complex and mission critical data centers.
This role leads the definition of mechanical systems design requirements for multiple, simultaneous data center projects from inception through completion and will provide expertise to the relevant core and cross functional business teams.
**Key responsibilities:**
+ Designs creative solutions to mechanical problems that arise in design and operation of mission critical systems.
+ Drives continuous improvement to come up with better ways to accomplish design intent, meet competitive landscape, and reduce cost.
+ Designs standard mechanical equipment sizing and specifications.
+ Works across multiple teams to ensure design deliverables meet company strategic goals.
+ Conducts QA/QC of design and documentation, including but not limited to construction drawings and commissioning test scripts.
+ Works across multiple teams and contractors on mechanical infrastructure projects.
+ Provides engineering support for sales opportunities and customer projects.
+ Troubleshoots problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for problems affecting system performance and efficiency.
+ Works across multiple teams with local authorities having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
+ Participates in factory witness testing of new equipment.
+ Assists engineers and commissioning agents to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical and building systems.
+ Assists with the performance of engineering calculations and studies.
+ Performs any other related task as required.
**To thrive in this role, you need to have:**
+ Seasoned knowledge of mechanical equipment including Air Cooled Chillers, Pumps, Water Treatment Systems, HVAC equipment, Computer Room AC Units (CRACs), Operating Building Management and Industrial PLC Control Systems, Air handling equipment, Valves, Piping, Ductwork, Storm and sanitary drains, industrial and domestic water.
+ Seasoned competence and familiarity with energy calculations.
+ Advanced proficiency in fluid flow and heat transfer calculations including approach temperature, small temperature difference, sensible load, latent load, NPSH, pump and fan affinity laws, pressure loss, fan and pump heat, kW/Ton, EER, IPLV, and the like.
+ Seasoned ability to perform psychrometric calculations and develop system state points and processes including use of wet bulb temperature, dewpoint temperature, dry bulb temperature, and enthalpy.
+ Seasoned understanding of control methods and hardware including signal types, data communication protocols for Building Automation and Control networks, actuator types, failure modes, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and control tuning methods.
+ Seasoned knowledge of relevant building codes, standards and regulations including California Title 24, ASHRAE, ASME, Life Safety, IBC, NFPA and OSHA.
+ Strong team player with good interpersonal skills coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to prioritize work efficiently, with good team orientation.
+ Ability to demonstrate computing skills that show complex data trending/tracking and analysis.
+ Seasoned proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Project.
**Academic qualifications and certifications:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar field required.
+ Professional Engineering certification required.
**Required experience:**
+ Seasoned experience preferably in a data center environment or critical environment (hospital, power plant, etc.).
+ Seasoned experience with large scale technical operations
+ Seasoned experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling.
+ Seasoned experience in SHRAE TC 9.9 publications including PUE, ASHRAE.
+ Advanced experience relating to recommended Temperature and Humidity Limits, Data Centre Controls, Containment.
+ Seasoned demonstrated experience with system sequence(s) of operation for complex systems with multiple functions.
+ Seasoned operating engineering experience with large mechanical systems including BMS trending, off-normal operation, and transient analysis.
