Job Title: Mechanical Designer

Job Description

As a Mechanical Designer, you will conduct engineering calculations to determine material strength, motion dynamics, and force requirements for mechanical systems. You will create detailed equipment models and technical drawings using SolidWorks, ensuring designs meet applicable safety and regulatory standards. Additionally, you will reverse engineer mechanical components using precision measurement instruments and refine technical drawings for accuracy, appropriate material selection, manufacturability, and surface finishes. Regular updates on design progress and modifications will be provided to project leads and stakeholders. You will work closely with fabrication, machining, tooling, and electrical teams to support equipment assembly and troubleshoot design-related issues.

Responsibilities

Essential Skills

5+ years of mechanical design experience within custom automation.Proficiency in SolidWorks (PDM knowledge is a plus).Experience with the design of conveyors, welding equipment, part manipulation, end of arm tooling/robotics, and manual stations.Strong communication skills.Experience in automation, engineering, robotics, machine design, PLM, custom automation, turnkey, pharmaceutical, life sciences, automotive, and consumer product industries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with PDM alongside SolidWorks.Shop floor experience in trades or machine building before transitioning to design.Experience designing custom automated solutions for multiple industries, with a focus on non-nuclear energy.

Work Environment

This is a remote role with the opportunity to work in a hybrid or onsite model if desired. The initial two weeks require onsite presence with the team for onboarding and acclimation. Afterward, the position allows for fully remote work, except for occasional onsite design reviews. The core work hours are from 9 AM to 3:30 PM, and alignment with these hours is expected. The team consists of roughly 30 designers, divided into three groups, each led by a project lead. New engineers will integrate with these teams under the leadership of the respective project leads.

Job Type & Location

This is a 3 month Contract position based out of Cambridge, Ontario. Remote after 2 weeks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
