Job Title: Senior/Lead Mechanical Layout Designer
Location: Ontario/Hybrid
Pay Rate: DOE

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior/Lead Mechanical Layout Designer to support complex industrial and material handling projects in the mining, power generation, and heavy industrial sectors. The ideal candidate brings years of experience in mechanical layout design, detailed drafting, and multi-discipline coordination using 2D and 3D CAD tools.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Develop complete 2D and 3D layout designs for material handling systems, including conveyors, silos, chutes, bins, feeders, ducting, and support structures. Prepare, check, and manage mechanical general arrangement drawings, detail drawings, and design sketches throughout all project phases—from conceptual to detailed engineering. Work with multi-discipline engineering teams to ensure cohesive plant layout integration and compliance with building codes and access/maintenance requirements. Conduct field investigations, site surveys, and clash detection to inform design improvements and resolve constructability issues. Review and incorporate vendor equipment drawings and technical data into project deliverables. Lead and mentor junior designers and drafters; manage drawing packages, estimates, and schedule progress in alignment with project milestones. Utilize tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, PDS, SolidWorks, and Navisworks to produce high-quality mechanical deliverables. Coordinate and participate in design reviews and layout presentations with project teams and client representatives.

Core Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in mechanical and material handling layout design Expertise in AutoCAD, MicroStation (2D/3D), Plant Design System (PDS), FrameWorks, and SolidWorks Strong understanding of bulk solids handling systems, including unloading, conveying, processing, and storage for materials like copper, nickel, coal, biomass, etc. Skilled in developing conceptual designs, construction-ready drawings, and design standards compliance Leadership experience managing design teams, budgets, schedules, and drawing control systems Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical presentation skills Able to work independently or within a team setting under tight deadlines

Education & Training:

Mechanical Engineering degree. Technical certifications and training in bin/feeder design, SolidWorks, and PDS
