Airswift is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support nuclear facility modification and design projects for a major client in the nuclear energy sector.
This role involves leading mechanical engineering efforts across the facility, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety, regulatory standards, and engineering codes. The position requires collaboration with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to deliver safe, efficient, and code-compliant mechanical solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in mechanical systems, experience in nuclear modification engineering, and the ability to work in both office and industrial environments.
Responsibilities: Lead design and implementation of mechanical modifications across nuclear systems and components Develop design packages, conceptual specifications, and support bidding processes Coordinate with vendors, AEs, and internal teams to ensure alignment with project scope and standards Conduct field walkdowns, troubleshoot design conflicts, and verify existing conditions Support post-modification testing, turnover documentation, and design revisions Ensure compliance with 10CFR50.59, site safety protocols, and regulatory requirements Act as Lead Technical or Responsible Engineer on assigned projects Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry Experience preparing mechanical design modifications and supporting implementation Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility Strong communication and technical documentation skills Familiarity with Consolidated Asset Suite and INPO-accredited Modification Engineer programs Preferred Qualifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license Qualification as a Design Verification Engineer Experience with nuclear safety analysis and regulatory compliance Prior experience supporting nuclear facility modifications
