About the Role

A respected multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong UK presence is seeking Mechanical Design Engineers across levels—from early career Engineers through to Principals—to join their Birmingham office.
You’ll work on diverse building services projects delivering innovative, sustainable mechanical designs across sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Engineer Level:
Produce mechanical design calculations, drawings, and specifications for HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systemsCollaborate with electrical and sustainability teams to deliver coordinated MEP designsSupport site visits, surveys, and technical reportingAssist with compliance checks to ensure designs meet UK regulations and client requirementsDevelop technical knowledge and participate in CPD activitiesIntermediate/Senior Level:
Lead design packages and manage technical deliverables on medium to large projectsMentor junior engineers and review design workCoordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and engage with clients and contractorsApply sustainable design principles and low-carbon technologiesOversee project documentation, specifications, and design risk assessmentsPrincipal Level:
Lead mechanical design strategy and business development initiativesManage complex, high-value projects from concept to completionDrive innovation, sustainability, and quality across mechanical engineering outputsLead and develop engineering teams, providing technical leadership and mentorshipBuild and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to growth opportunities

Candidate Requirements

Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent)Experience varies by level:
Engineer: 0–3 yearsIntermediate/Senior: 3–8+ yearsPrincipal: 8+ years with proven leadership and project management experienceStrong technical knowledge of mechanical building services systems and UK regulationsProficient in design software such as Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD or similarChartered status or working towards chartership preferred, especially at Senior and Principal levelsExcellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
