What a Mechanical Design Engineer does at HP:
Deliver product design & assemblies to production on time, cost and to specification (functionality, reliability, safety & performance) helping the business accomplish its goals.
Perform optical, illumination, and light‑path simulation, enabling early prediction and optimization of lightguide and lightpipe performance, improving uniformity, reducing leakage, and accelerating design convergence before tooling.
Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability & acoustics.
Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
Leads a project team of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for moderately- complex products.
Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.
Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Typically 4-10 years experience.
Using CREO Direct Modelling or other 3D CAD software as a mechanical design tool.
Using TracePro or similar optical/illumination simulation software as a tool for light‑path, lightguide, and opto‑mechanical design optimization.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Strong understanding and experience in product design.
Designing sheet metal and plastic parts and associated production tooling and processes.
Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
