Job Description
We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer for a 6-month contract to assist in new product introductions. This role is part of a challenging yet rewarding multimillion-dollar project that provides an opportunity to introduce a new engineered product and bring it to life.
ResponsibilitiesReview high-level user and project requirements to translate them into mechanical product functional and performance requirements.Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies, including fabricated metal components, plastic injection product enclosures, and electro-mechanical interfaces.Collaborate with purchasing to manage BOM COGS targets throughout development and provide input into the make/buy process.Support engineering prototype builds and resolve assembly and testing issues during pilot builds.Perform root cause analysis, verify, and implement corrective actions related to product quality issues.Initiate, promote, and manage engineering change notices, documenting engineering justification for changes.Conduct initial feasibility assessments for off-the-shelf component selection and provide input into qualification plans.Assist in developing mechanical design verification test protocols, execute tests, and report on electrical-mechanical systems.Assess suppliers and supplied product conformance, including tolerance analysis, first article inspections, part traceability, and risk level determination.Support product safety certification processes and human factors engineering.Responsible for dFMEA and provide input into pFMEA and production controls to ensure product quality.Develop and monitor mechanical timelines against project milestones and report project issues to engineering and project management.Essential Skills3-5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably with medical devices or consumer products with complex electro-mechanical architecture.Solidworks experience (3-5 years), including component and assembly design, 3D designs, 2D drawings, and BOM lifecycle management.Ability to work to product requirements, monitor program milestones, and report project issues.Plastic enclosure design experience.Capability to manage vendor deliverables for a medical cart.Strong communication skills.Proficiency in GD&T.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with new product introductions or sustaining products.Experience in plastic, sheet metal, and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.Ability to remove technical roadblocks.Work Environment
The position is based in Oakville, requiring 2-3 days in the office weekly for design reviews and collaboration with another designer. The role involves 50% design work using Solidworks, 25% meetings and project reporting, and 25% prototyping and testing.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
