### Job Duties
This position performs skilled and semi-skilled mechanical work on Public Works vehicles and equipment, including diagnosing issues, troubleshooting problems, performing inspections, and making necessary repairs. Responsibilities include fabricating replacement parts, conducting Minnesota-certified commercial vehicle inspections, and maintaining accurate safety practices in the shop. The role also involves operating light, heavy, and specialized Public Works equipment, assisting with snow and ice control, and supporting other Public Works divisions as needed. In addition, the Mechanic picks up parts and supplies, helps maintain a safe and efficient work environment, and may perform some duties of the Shop/Fleet Foreman or Maintenance Worker when required.
### Minimum Education Required
An Associate’s degree in heavy equipment and truck maintenance or a related field and four (4) years of progressive qualified work experience in a similar field are required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if it provides the skills necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in heavy equipment or vehicle maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
