This position is located in Section 42, Unit 071- Central Repair Shop of the DOTD and reports directly to the Mechanic Supervisor B. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. The incumbent must participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience or training as a mechanic. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: + The employee is responsible for ordering the correct parts for repairs and ensuring all paperwork is approved before starting jobs. + Ensure work is performed efficiently, operate repaired equipment, and keep records of the work done. + Assists mechanics, checks stock levels, maintains tools and equipment, resolves technical issues, trains subordinates, and performs design and installation tasks for safety lighting and equipment accessories. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, promotion, or by detail to special duty.
