Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
**Scope of Position:**
The measurements organization provides measurement solutions to Corning’s Optical Connectivity business to deliver best in class products to our customers. This position requires knowledge in fiber optics manufacturing process to provide technical leadership and support to Corning product testing and inspection processes across different regions.
**Day to Day Responsibilities:**
+ Develop and implement measurement methods and inspection systems for fiber optics products.
+ Provide technical support to manufacturing teams globally, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
+ Support measurement process and equipment improvement projects: equipment reliability, reducing measurement error, enabling automation and metrology, and cost reductions.
+ Conduct experiments and analyze data to enhance measurement systems.
+ Transfer and deploy measurement technologies to manufacturing environments and between regions.
+ Document processes and train teams on system usage and maintenance.
+ Collaborate with external suppliers to develop and install test equipment.
+ Support the worldwide testing alignment strategies including external manufacturing.
**Required Education, Years and Area of Experience:**
+ BS in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics, or Physics.
+ 3+ years of work experience in measurement engineering, process engineering, or related area.
+ MBA or similar would be considered as a substitute for years of experience.
**Required Skills:**
+ Strong project management and multitasking abilities.
+ Excellent communication skills (English), with the ability to deliver clear updates to leadership and collaborate effectively across global, cross-functional teams.
+ Problem-solving and data analysis expertise.
+ Knowledge on statistical tools and software (e.g., Minitab).
+ Accountable for actions/behaviors.
**Desired Skills:**
+ Scientific curiosity, inventive mindset, and a solid understanding of manufacturing principles and environments.
+ Familiarity with fiber optics measurement techniques (e.g., interferometry, microscopy, optical attenuation).
+ Experience with machine vision systems and image processing.
+ Python programming and machine learning knowledge.
+ Advanced modeling and statistical tools (e.g., MATLAB, ZMax).
+ Experience with CAD design.
+ General IT and networking knowledge for system troubleshooting.
**Travel Requirements:**
0-10% travel domestic and international (Mexico, USA, France, China, Taiwan)
