MDS Lead Specialist RN
Job Summary With upline oversight, leads MDS and acts as subject matter expert. Offers input regarding process improvement and efficiencies. Trains new and existing MDS on standard operating procedures. Responsible for accurate completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) and Care Area Assessments (CAAs) collaborating with Staff Nurses, Nurse Aides, and the interdisciplinary team on the assessment process and development of resident MDS/Care Plans. Position will monitor Medicare and Medicaid requirements. Essential Functions + Reviews nursing chart on resident information and performs evaluations as needed to complete MDS according to state regulatory and Medicare A requirements. Establishes weekly MDS schedules and Care Conference calendars adjusting as needed. Updates end of month PPS process. + Ensures timely completion of RAI by the interdisciplinary team, collaborates with Interdisciplinary team on RAI and care planning process, and identifying significant changes in resident status. + Participates in weekly team conference and daily clinical management meetings. Monitors Medicare A coverage. Monitors the completion of Medicare certifications/re-certifications. Informs Social Worker of last day of Medicare A coverage. + Performs audits and quality review duties as assigned by Senior Director or designee. Monitors accuracy of MDS items completed by other departments. Provides necessary information to billing. Ensures MDS accuracy in coding and compliance with MDS schedule for OBRA and PPS. + Maintains up to date on changing reforms with MDS and PPS systems. Provides PPS information as needed for Access Management. + Provides direction and support to team of MDS, including developing and participating in training new team members. Works on complex assignments. Analyzes and measures effectiveness of existing processes and helps identify and develop operational practices and procedures that focus on quality MDS items.
