Job Description
The Materials Planner plays a critical role in ensuring that materials and purchased parts are accurately ordered, tracked, and available to support production schedules in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position owns the execution and monitoring of parts orders, inventory transactions, and job-related materials, while working closely with Planning, Purchasing, Production, and Sales to keep jobs moving smoothly and customers well informed. ResponsibilitiesGenerate and manage job-related purchase requisitions to ensure materials are ordered accurately and on time.Run MRP and execute material buys to support production needs and meet committed schedules.Expedite purchased materials when necessary and provide clear status reporting to relevant stakeholders.Track material availability and confirm production start readiness dates to prevent delays.Maintain accurate inventory quantities in the system (including Syteline) through timely and precise transactions.Coordinate the picking and shipping of purchased inventory parts to support ongoing production and customer orders.Manually record inventory variances and communicate discrepancies to the Planner for resolution.Generate and manage job orders as assigned, ensuring all required information is complete and accurate.Close job orders once completed and verify that all records, transactions, and documentation are correct.Generate and distribute job travelers when required to support production and material flow.Perform daily reviews of open parts orders to identify and address potential delays or gaps in supply.Generate key lists (such as green lists) to provide visibility to production and planning teams.Report part status, shortages, and risks that may impact production schedules or customer delivery dates.Coordinate closely with Production, Planning, and Purchasing on material needs and changes to align material availability with job schedules.Inform Sales and customers of expected ship dates based on material availability and production status.Provide timely updates when material issues may impact production or delivery dates, escalating where appropriate.Support Purchasing and Receiving by providing clear job and material requirements and by following through on parts-related actions.Serve as a key point of accountability for parts-related execution, follow-through, and problem resolution.Work effectively in a semi-chaotic, evolving environment, maintaining composure and focus without relying on a large or highly structured team.Essential Skills1–3 years of experience in materials planning, production planning, demand planning, inventory control, procurement, or a closely related supply chain function.Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, with direct responsibility for executing tasks rather than delegating them.Experience with ERP systems for managing materials, purchase orders, and inventory; familiarity with NetSuite or Syteline is a plus but any ERP experience is acceptable.Proficiency in materials planning and scheduling, including running MRP and managing material buys.Strong inventory control skills, including maintaining accurate system quantities and resolving variances.Experience with production planning, production scheduling, and coordinating material availability with job schedules.Ability to manage purchase orders, lead times, and supply chain constraints to support on-time delivery.Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple open orders and priorities simultaneously.Clear and proactive communication skills to coordinate with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Sales, and customers.Ability to remain composed and effective in a semi-chaotic or rapidly changing environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience as a Materials Planner, Materials Scheduler, or in a similar role within a manufacturing setting.Familiarity with Syteline ERP and other manufacturing ERP platforms.Background in demand planning, production planning, and production scheduling within a make-to-order or job-based environment.Understanding of lead time management, supply chain concepts, and purchase order lifecycle management.Comfort working in a smaller team where the individual serves as a key point of accountability.Interest in or exposure to engineered equipment for water, wastewater, or industrial process fluids is beneficial.Ability to interpret and work with production workflow charts and related documentation.Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing facility housed in a very old building originally constructed in 1905, which is undergoing ongoing improvements. The team is small and closely knit, and the role reports into plant leadership, with day-to-day alignment to production supervision as that function is staffed. The organization operates in a pandemic-resilient, highly stable industry focused on engineered water infrastructure equipment for water, wastewater, and industrial process fluids, providing reliable solutions for safe and efficient water management. The work environment can be semi-chaotic and fast-paced, requiring adaptability, initiative, and comfort working without a large or highly structured support team. The position follows a weekday schedule with flexible hours, typically Monday through Friday, either 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with no weekend shifts. Work involves regular use of ERP systems such as Syteline and other standard office and manufacturing tools to manage materials, purchase orders, and production workflows.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
