Materials Specialist - Plant Bowen
This position acts as the primary contact between plant personnel and the warehouse materials department to ensure accuracy and efficacy of stock material. Accountable for analyzing, replenishing, monitoring, and controlling plant inventory to ensure maximum material availability with minimum inventory investment to Southern Company. Responsible for reducing unnecessary or excessive inventory carrying costs, minimizing loss of unit availability due to parts shortages, and helping to ensure the Company's competitive position in the utility industry. Responsible for commodity data review activities in Maximo for the Inventory and Materials Management system. Coordinate inventory activities with plant personnel and management to support corporate material initiatives including inventory reporting, analyzing records, reconciliation activities, and other actions necessary to ensure compliance and the accuracy of inventory data. Responsible for reporting and documentation associated with Corporate and Sarbanes-Oxley guidelines, local policies, self-assessments, auditing, and any present or future requirements of the Playbook related to materials management. Procurement of local purchases including tracking orders, research, and all other activities as required. Support and promote Safety, Compliance, Customer Service and Team initiatives in the workplace. As a member of the Compliance & Support organization, this position will also support completion of other compliance activities and tasks including site walkdowns, completing checklists, abiding by the site’s Hazard Communication Program and contract documentation and project management oversight. The successful candidate will be a champion for materials/compliance initiatives, model “Our Values” and lead by example in all areas of materials management and compliance.
Job Requirements
Education
High School Diploma or GED required Post-Secondary Education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration or a related field preferred and/or Equivalent Direct Work ExperienceExperience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Oracle, Maximo and Enterprise Solutions suite of applications Working knowledge of plant operations and equipment is a plus Experience in warehouses, inventory management, control, purchasing, invoice reconciliation, and the associated procedures is preferred Knowledge of the IBEW contract is a plus Strong computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, TEAMs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with plant, company, system and vendor personnel Effective problem solving and analytical skills to evaluate and recommend optimum stocking levels Understanding of auditing principals and techniques to be able to interface with internal/external auditing firms Ability to maintain confidentiality relative to information about vendors and cost Demonstrated strong teamwork skills, coupled with ability to work independently with minimal supervision Model “Our Values”- Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior PerformanceJob Responsibilities
Primary contact between Plant Personnel, the Warehouse Materials Department and Supply Chain Management Responsible for analyzing inventory reorder pre-list report daily to ensure departmental accuracy and efficiency Review and optimize stocking levels by manufacturer and unit/equipment Ensure review of 20% of inventory by System Owners every year Perform Material/Freight Invoice Reconciling Assist with the coordination of vendor alliances and stocking programs Take ownership for inventory level accuracy through inventory cycle counts, research of variances and discrepancies, and corrective measures Identify criticality of stock items (Critical Spares, Maintenance, Consumable), min/max parameters, initiate reports, identify obsolete inventory and MII (Management Initiative Inventory) material to facilitate its disposition and adjustments to inventory with System Owners Standardize new commodity additions and existing commodity information on stock items Monitor and track material returns to inventory stock (including special project materials) Coordinate and process system and company sales and purchases through interfaces with other plants Coordinate system vendor alliances, stocking and restocking programs, consignments and buy backs with plant personnel and Supply Chain Management Responsible for reporting/documentation associated with any present or future requirements in the Playbook related to materials management and compliance Coordinate with Planning Department to provide material consistent with current needs Requisition and expedite orders as needed Monitoring and tracking of plant repairable/rotating asset inventory items, through reports and communications with System Owner Submittal of quarterly expenditure documentation for Financial Self-Assessments auditing Preparation of new material inventory exception(s) submittals to Supply Chain Management Coordinate and complete special projects and information requests Aid to ensure other compliance and support activities and tasks are completed accurately and timely including areas of contract compliance, hazard communication, compliance PM’s, site walkdowns/inspections and checklists Must be available for callouts, some nights, weekend work, and overnight travel***This position is identified as a critical role.
