At Boehringer Ingelheim, we are committed to advancing covalent drug discovery through cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS-)based chemical proteomics capabilities. As part of this effort, we aim to establish innovative methods to directly identify covalent binding sites of compounds, providing critical insights into target engagement within cellular contexts and potentially in vivo samples. Furthermore, these methods will enable us to assess the selectivity of advanced compounds against off-targets, driving precision and innovation in our research. Join us in shaping the future of covalent drug discovery and making a meaningful impact on patient lives.
**You will gain an insight into the following topics and tasks**
+ This position begins with a comprehensive introduction to MS-based proteomics, accompanied by hands-on training on state-of-the-art mass spectrometers.
+ You will develop and implement methods to analyze covalent binding of small molecules to proteins, contributing to innovative chemical proteomics applications.
+ You will establish and (semi-)automate experimental workflows and sample preparation procedures for MS-based chemical proteomics studies, ensuring reproducibility and scalability.
+ You will fine-tune LC-MS parameters to optimize throughput while maintaining high peptide and protein coverage.
+ You will regularly report, discuss, and document results with your supervisor, while independently designing and executing experiments to advance project goals.
**Your profile**
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or Biotechnology
+ Deep knowledge and interest in (bio-)chemical analytics as well as solid expertise in biochemical wet lab techniques
+ First "hands-on" experience with MS technology and large-scale data analysis with either programming language (R, Python) is of advantage
+ Strong interest for learning about the operation of state-of-the-art mass spectrometers and optimizing MS-based proteomics methodologies
+ Open-minded personality with very good language skills in spoken and written English to document achievements and inform stakeholders on project progression
+ Strong "hands-on" mentality
**What we can offer you**
+ As a student intern, you can expect a **fair expense allowance** (payment of the currently valid minimum wage)
