Mass Properties Engineer

Weight data management is a key element to support the Mass Properties team during product development and product cycle life. In order to the Mass Properties engineer deploy weight deliverables and identify and address issues and opportunities, it is imperative the understand of weight status and changes along the product development phases and assumption changes. Mass Properties engineers manage vehicle level target and risks & opportunities based on vehicle level status, but this tracking of status is consolidated and based on part/system level status tracking (bottom-up), which is manage & tracked by Weight Change Management Service, through PMT/D&Rs inputs, who are the part/systems owners.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related

Experience on mass properties area

2+ years of experience in the ground transportation or aerospace industries in an engineering/analytical capacity

Our preferred requirements:

Master Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science

Functional understanding of powertrain, chassis, body structure and electrical systems

Understanding of vehicle architecture, standard vehicle materials properties (e.g. steels, aluminum, plastics, etc.) and assembly plant end of line processes

Knowledge of applied systems engineering, interface management, multi-attribute optimization

Background in applied statistics or Six Sigma subject areas, experience in Minitab

Self-directed, confident individual with excellent interpersonal skills and solid understanding of Microsoft Office

BEFORE Concern/CRF/CMF Approval: Monitor changes for weight impacts across all PMT’s and work to ensure an adequate weight impact is added to each part Align with D&R on absolute values (to ensure accuracy of application of part deltas) and work with FEDEBOM Analyst to rectify, if needed Establish control model weight impact for each Concern/CMF/CRF  Monitor changes through VPAT meetings Support Mass Properties implications analysis due to Change Control updates for programs from different regions. Monitor change progress through Change Control / Decision Forum meeting(s)

AFTER Concern/CRF/CMF Approval: Monitor notice progress until release – monitor offline in order to provide an accurate vehicle status at change control (Post-FDJ only) Monitor WERS to FEDEBOM data flow – ensure data is transmitted correctly (Post-FDJ only) Correct errors either through FEDEBOM Analyst or PMT / D&R engineers Reflect weight changes in issue-to-issue waterfall charts over time/gateway,
considering both approved and unapproved concerns Support updates on Mass Properties systems due to Change Control updates for programs from different regions. Manage bulk materials / fasteners / PPAP / Audit data off-line
