Maritime Field Engineer

Summary Statement
The Maritime Field Engineer serves as a vital link between engineering and production teams in a shipyard environment. This role is responsible for developing and executing build strategies, coordinating system routing, and supporting the construction and installation of piping, electrical, and structural systems aboard vessels. The ideal candidate is results-oriented, proactive, and experienced in dynamic shipbuilding environments, with a proven ability to deliver new class vessels on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
+ As-Built Documentation:
+ Collaborate in developing new vessel build strategies
+ Update drawings to reflect field changes and ensure compliance with design standards
+ Provide production guidance and problem-solving during construction
+ Improve construction schedules when possible
+ Engineering & Production Coordination
+ Interpret design intent and resolve technical issues with engineering teams
+ Work closely with production supervisors and craft leads to ensure proper system routing and installation
+ Provide input on material sourcing and purchasing
+ System Routing & Construction Support
+ Plan and verify routing for piping, electrical, and mechanical systems
+ Provide on-site technical support during installation and commissioning phases
+ Quality & Compliance
+ Ensure all work meets ABS, USCG, and company standards
+ Review and revise drawings for accuracy and compliance with specifications
+ Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
+ Address discrepancies between design and field conditions promptly
+ Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce rework
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience)
+ Minimum 7 years of experience in shipyard new build projects
+ Minimum 5 years in a craft management position, including subcontractor work
+ Proven record of contracts accomplished on time and on budget
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with Ship Constructor or similar software
+ Strong understanding of vessel systems (piping, electrical, structural)
+ Ability to interpret and apply ABS/Coast Guard rules and regulations
+ Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently
Preferred Skills:
+ Experience with NC nesting programs and template design
+ Familiarity with production workflows and shipyard safety protocols
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain drawing lists with updates
+ Experience in electrical or hybrid-driven vessels
