Summary You will serve as a Marine Transportation Specialist in the Operations Department of SEALIFT LOGISTICS COMMAND, FAR EAST. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Responsibilities You will coordinate, administer, regulate and control the movements and operations of Strategic Sealift dry cargo ships and tankers. You will coordinate and manage the operations of Military Sealift Command Strategic Sealift dry cargo ships, point-to-point tankers, and any contracted ships assigned to the command. You will conduct advanced planning for cargo operations and coordinates ship schedules to meet the requirements of mission sponsors. You will monitor dry cargo and tanker loading and discharge operations. You will develop recommended schedules for dry cargo ships and tankers in support of common user cargo lift requirements or exercise support requirements. You will continuously monitor the operational and material readiness of assigned dry cargo ships and tankers though direct observation or review of operational reports. You will provide detailed information, assessments and recommendations for corrective or mitigating action to the chain of command, coordinating with outside agencies or commands as necessary. You will ensure the efficient utilization of dry cargo assets and to ensure the safe and timely execution of cargo operations on dry cargo ships. You will maintain liaison as appropriate with cargo terminals (both military and commercial), commercial agents of chartered and contract operated ships, local government agencies, and local contractors in order to ensure optimal operation. You will provide supervisory oversight for the operation of all controlled tankers to include scheduling of tanker operations. You will provide oversight for the planning and execution of logistical support for all command-controlled ships visiting the port. You will provide training to ships' masters and other key crewmembers in the preparation of required operational reports as required. You will serve as a SEA Card ordering officer, assisting ships in the procurement of bunker fuels Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Monitoring of dry cargo and tanker loading and discharge operations; managing the operations of dry cargo ships and point-to-point tankers.
