**Job Description**
**Position Summary**
Painters are responsible for mixing and applying paint to various surfaces using paint techniques and tools to complete paint projects.
**Key Responsibilities & Functional Knowledge**
This list is representative of the key areas of responsibility and functional knowledge required of a third class mechanic-painter in the Paint Shop. A third class mechanic must demonstrate a developing knowledge of the skills, functional knowledge and abilities required to perform tasks in these and related areas of responsibility.
Developing knowledge means that the mechanic understands how to perform tasks in these categories (including, but not limited to, the specific tasks identified below) and is able to complete them with minimal assistance. This also means that the mechanic has the necessary level of knowledge of the equipment, protective gear, and machinery required to complete these tasks. In some cases, as specified, the third class mechanic is expected to assist, rather than completing the task independently.
+ General
+ Possess brush and roll painting skills
+ Perform a layout on a job
+ Mastics and Caulk Application
+ Understand the uses for mastics
+ Prepare and apply mastics whether in putty or liquid form
+ Caulk small jobs independently
+ Cut Lines and Figures
+ Cut lines for painting
+ Measure the square footage for painting
+ Follow the directions outlined in the sketch
+ Execute the job with direction
+ Power Tool Surface Prep
+ Use the needle gun, deck crawler and power tool (pneumatic or electric) for surface prep
+ Remove existing coating systems
+ Sand an area to prep for painting
+ Know surface prep standards
+ Must be working towards completing one or more of the following training:
+ Quality critical activities (Strippers and Painting training)
+ PCMS Tile-Maintenance and Installation Cert for Paint
+ Mechanical
+ Knowledge of testing valves on a machine to ensure that it is operational
_Secondary skills that are preferred but not required:_
+ Spray Airless Painting
+ Working to complete the spray application training
+ Know how to operate the spray pump
+ Know the differences and how to operate Conventional Airless and Plural Component Airless spray pumps
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
Minimum Relevant Experience: 2 to 4 yrs.
Must be able to obtain a government access badge.
**Practical Theory Requirements**
A third class mechanic must demonstrate a developing understanding of job sighting and ability to proactively manage tasks.
**Other Requirements**
+ Must be able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions
+ Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
+ Must be able to calculate and understand units of measure
+ Must be able to wear applicable PPE (Hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, steel toes shoes, ear protection, Tyvek suits, respirators, etc.

**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**
Preferred minimum relevant experience: 3 to 5 yrs.

This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages.
