**Marine Mechanic - San Diego, CA - Immediately Hiring**
**Job Description**
+ We are seeking a Marine Mechanic to support shipboard mechanical systems aboard U.S. Navy vessels in San Diego. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and operationally testing mechanical, propulsion, hydraulic, and auxiliary systems. The mechanic will interpret blueprints, apply naval maintenance standards, perform system alignments, and ensure compliance with Navy and OSHA safety requirements.
**Responsibilities**
+ Diagnose and repair HM&E systems.
+ Support shipboard modernization and readiness.
+ Maintain Navy technical program documentation (WAF, tag-out, QWI).
+ Supervise and mentor junior mechanics.
+ Work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering and technical team.
+ Impact fleet readiness and Navy mission success directly.
+ Work on the mechanical components of small boats needing maintenance or repair.
+ Repair and maintain marine diesel engines and mechanical equipment onboard vessels.
+ Inspect and troubleshoot marine diesel engines and equipment to diagnose issues.
+ Carry out regular maintenance and servicing of the vessels’ engines and mechanical systems.
+ Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and systems.
+ Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
+ Test the performance of the engine and other systems following repair.
+ Read and interpret technical manuals and drawings.
+ Perform tests or inspections to ensure successful completion of repairs and vessel readiness.
+ Complete repairs on engine products in a service shop.
+ Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools.
+ Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble engines or mechanical parts, diagnosing problems and replacing worn and defective parts.
**Essential Skills**
+ Deep understanding of propulsion equipment, auxiliary systems, hydraulics, and HM&E components.
+ Hands-on experience in diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling complex systems aboard U.S. Navy ships.
+ Ability to interpret technical documentation and blueprints.
+ Proficiency in Navy maintenance programs, including tag-out standards, WAF processes, and QWI documentation.
+ Precision measurement and tool proficiency, including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and torque tools.
+ Prior U.S. Navy HM&E or maritime industry experience.
+ Experience with diesel engines or gas turbine engines.
+ Familiarity with shipboard auxiliary equipment (elevators, deck doors, conveyors, CIWS, etc.).
+ Journeyman-level training or Navy “A”/“C” school.
+ Experience in modernization/ship repair environments.

**Work Environment**
+ Work will be performed at NBSD and shop settings. Expect shipboard and waterfront industrial environments aboard U.S. Navy vessels. Engage in fast-paced, safety-driven technical work with a mix of independent and team-oriented mechanical assignments. Standard workweek with potential overtime depending on ship availability and Navy schedules. Personal protective equipment is required, and an industrial dress code is enforced. Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and Navy personnel.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
