The Amazon Robotics (AR) Operations organization oversees the manufacturing of high-quality robotics and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions. It’s a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, and is driven by data and performance indicators. Within this group, the Manufacturing Test and Controls (MTAC) team is the center of excellence for ensuring every product meets our rigorous standards for quality and reliability. We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Test Lead to be the senior technical authority for 2nd shift test operations at our Greater Boston facilities. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, focused on ensuring the continuous production and quality of our most complex robotic manipulation workcells.
As the 2nd shift lead, you will be the primary point of contact for troubleshooting, and technical mentorship. You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve complex issues, drive continuous improvement, and ensure the highest possible product quality. This role is crucial for scaling our manufacturing capabilities and reports to the Manager of Product Sustaining and Support Test Engineering.
Key job responsibilities
- Actively foster and drive culture of inclusion.
- Serve as the on-site technical expert and primary escalation point for all 2nd shift manufacturing test operations.
- Provide real-time, hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex failures in robotic workcells, automated test equipment, and devices under test.
- Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to a team of 6-8 production test technicians to enhance their diagnostic skills and operational knowledge.
- Drive production flow by resolving critical test issues efficiently, minimizing downtime, and ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Manage and report on shift-level KPIs, including First Pass Yield (FPY), equipment uptime, and test cycle times, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with 1st shift and engineering teams to ensure smooth shift handovers, communicating ongoing issues, maintenance activities, and quality concerns.
- Aid in the development, validation, and implementation of new test strategies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor.
- Interface with 2nd shift Production, Quality, and Process Engineering teams to ensure synchronized and efficient factory operations.
- Propose and help validate design changes (DfM/DfT) that enhance product manufacturability, testability, and reliability.
- Document shift activities, technical issues, and implemented solutions to contribute to our knowledge base and training materials.
- Champion a culture of safety, ensuring all procedures are followed and promoting safe working practices during the shift.
- Support test stations at local contract manufacturers and system integrators as needed.
