The Manufacturing Technology Manager will report to the Plant Manager / SuM Manager and work in close collaboration with the SuM Team, Regional and Global Support Team.
Before Start-up: Ensuring innovative technologies are identified, implemented, and maintained prior to Plant start up enhancing future production efficiency, food safety, sustainability, and digital transformation. Production processes are clearly defined in cooperation with Technical Operations. McCain MDI structure is implemented.After Start-up: Ensuring that new and existing technologies are fully operational, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards, while delivering measurable business value. Production Processes are continuously improved and reinforced to improve efficiency and output. MDI maintaining and continuous improvement of all operational routines, communication channels and reporting.
Responsibilities:
Before Start-up:
Develop and lead the plant’s comprehensive technology & process engineering roadmap, ensuring alignment with McCain’s business objectives and global standards.Identify and drive improvements in production processes through advanced process engineering methodologies, focusing on optimization of parameter settings to maximize yield and product recovery.Set, document, and implement new Best Operational Practices tailored to the specific plant design, drawing on benchmarks from other McCain locations.Conduct in-depth monitoring of industry trends, emerging food processing technologies, and digital solutions; evaluate and recommend adoption of innovations such as automation, AI, IoT, robotics, and advanced mechanical/process equipment.Lead feasibility studies, pilot projects, technology trials, validation, and production scale-up activities directly supporting process optimization and operational readiness.Ensure execution of a Readiness Checklist (to include detailed process engineering, technology, digital requirements, and MDI routines), culminating in full operational preparedness and seamless integration of new processes and technologies.Introduce and optimize digital tools (SCADA, IoT, digital twins, predictive analytics, MES systems).Implement smart manufacturing technologies to enhance efficiency, traceability, and product quality.Collaborate with IT on data-driven decision-making, cybersecurity, and system integration.Promote digitalization of maintenance, quality control, and supply chain processes.Design, adapt, and implement a digital technology architecture that aligns with both mechanical process needs and operational requirements.Lead the introduction and customization of digital tools (e.g., SCADA, IoT platforms, Digital Twins, MES systems), including programming, simulation, and ensuring architecture flexibility for future mechanical/process changes.Simulate process lines and process changes virtually using digital twins to optimize design and refine processes before physical deployment.Implement the McCain Drives Impact (MDI) routines, embedding core routines into plant workflows to support system digitalization, simplification, and real-time performance management.Oversee the installation and roll-out of user-friendly applications and digital tools to simplify day-to-day reporting, routine communication, and operational dashboards for plant teams.Foster a culture of digital adoption at all levels, ensuring that new systems streamline communication channels and support timely, accurate decision-making.
After Start-up:
Lead and maintain the plant’s technology and process engineering roadmap in alignment with business objectives, continuously adapting to changes in operations and market needs.Monitor and apply industry trends, cutting-edge food processing technologies, and digital innovations to optimize plant performance.Champion best practices in process engineering by regularly reviewing and adjusting process parameters, maximizing recovery, yield, and operational efficiency.Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, leveraging data analysis and engineering principles to establish and elevate operational benchmarks.Provide ongoing expert guidance, troubleshooting, and technical support to project and operations teams, fostering a platform for innovation in resource efficiency, sustainability, and waste reduction.Oversee feasibility studies, pilot projects, technical trials, validation, and production scale-up of new technologies—ensuring alignment with process optimization goals.Manage capital investment (CAPEX) projects relating to process technology, automation, and sustainability, with a focus on business value and future-readiness.Sustain, optimize, and customize digital tools (including SCADA, IoT, digital twins, MES, and predictive analytics) to address both operational needs and plant mechanical requirements.Maintain and advance the plant’s digital architecture, integrating simulation and programming expertise to support ongoing process adjustments and troubleshooting.Collaborate closely with IT and automation teams on cybersecurity, data-driven operational decision-making, and secure system integration.Drive digitalization of all key routines, including maintenance, quality management, and supply chain, ensuring traceability and operational visibility.Oversee the ongoing integration, optimization, and simplification of MDI routines into daily operations, ensuring that reporting, communications, and process management remain streamlined and effective.Identify, select, and implement new digital tools and applications as needed to simplify routine workflows and enhance ease-of-use for plant teams.Act as a champion for digitalization, reinforcing a culture where day-to-day reporting and communication are consistent, timely, data-rich, and user-centric.Continuously assess and enhance MDI routines and systems for performance management, communication flow, and best practice sharing across the operation.Ensure all processing and digital systems are kept in optimal operational condition, emphasizing minimal downtime and rapid response to system anomalies.Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, using digital tools to drive performance.Manage service contracts, vendor relationships, and equipment/spare parts availability, leveraging digital records and analytics for decision support.Coordinate calibration, validation, and performance testing of equipment, upholding food safety and quality standards.Develop and deliver procedures and hands-on training for safe, efficient equipment operation.Identify technological, process, and digitalization improvement opportunities through rigorous analysis of plant performance and operational data.Collect, analyze, and interpret technical and operational information to accurately define issues, monitor performance, and guide corrective or improvement actions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Technology, Engineering, Automation, or related field.Strong background in automation, digitalization, Manufacturing Engineering, maintenance, leadership.Experience leading programs enabled with technologies including MES, SCADA, advanced analytics and automation solutions.Experience in a manufacturing environment.Project management skillsGood communication skills, both oral and written, both German and English.
