Manufacturing Engineering Technician - Aluminum Welding Focus

Supports engineering and scientific staff by developing, testing, and refining aluminum welding processes and equipment. Plays a key role in tooling development, process optimization, and quality assurance for aluminum welding competency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and implements tooling and fixtures specific to aluminum welding applications.Reviews project instructions, blueprints, and welding specifications to determine process requirements and potential improvements.Drafts detailed drawings or sketches for fabrication of welding jigs, fixtures, and components.Sets up and operates welding equipment, including TIG and MIG systems, for aluminum materials.Conducts weld tests and inspections to ensure compliance with design and quality standards.Troubleshoots welding issues and recommends process changes or equipment modifications.Collaborates with design and production teams to optimize weld joint designs and manufacturability.Records welding procedures, test results, and recommendations for process improvements.Ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards related to welding operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May occasionally supervise production workers or welders involved in aluminum welding projects.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Associate degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Certifications: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential from the American Welding Society (AWS) is required.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret technical documents, welding codes, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in geometry, trigonometry, and material calculations relevant to welding and fabrication.Reasoning Ability: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt welding techniques to meet design and production needs.

Physical Demands

Frequent standing, bending, and handling of welding equipment.Occasional lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required during welding operations.

Work Environment

Exposure to welding fumes, heat, and noise.Work performed in both shop and manufacturing floor environments.Safety protocols and ventilation systems in place to mitigate exposure risks.

The hourly pay range for this role is $26.00 to $38.00.  The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.  More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at www.mywabtecbenefits.com.
