Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution

A minimum of five years’ relevant experience within an engineering environment

CMM programming knowledge (preferably Renishaw MODUS)

An understanding of technical drawings including GD&T features

Proficient in CNC Milling, CAM an advantage

Proficient in CAD, Siemens NX an advantage 

Heidenhain CNC control systems

Knowledge of problem-solving tools (FMEA or equivalent)

Design for manufacturing

Knowledge of automation systems

Robot programming an advantage (Yaskawa/Motoman)

  High level of computer literacy (Word/Excel/Project)

Good judgment and decision making

Communication and Team working skills 

Meticulous with good attention to detail

Excellent organizational and planning skills

The Manufacturing Automation Lead position located in Hampton, VA will support the Engineering Manager with the efficient workflow management of team of Manufacturing Engineers working on multiple projects. Provide support for manufacturing processes on site including CMM, EDM, CNC, Waterjet and Automated operations. Develop automated manufacturing processes. Provide manufacturing expertise for the engineering team. Qualify new product on manufacturing and measurement equipment, internally and with the customer.

Essential Job Responsibilities but not limited to:

Maintain Training and Skills Matrix for Manufacturing EngineersMaintain EH&S records for department, Implement and support EH&S activitiesManage Goals / Performance / Development expectations and perform performance reviewsProgramming automated inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and structured light systems such as GOM ATOS equipment Applying first principles inspection methods and use of standard measurement equipmentCreate, verify, and release machining programs for CNC, EDM & WaterjetUse of/mentor other team members in CAD, CAM, CMM, EDM & Automation Design and deliver tooling and fixtures for manufacturing processes

Development and implementation of new advanced manufacturing equipment and automation

Support justification of capital funding requests

Cost reduction and process improvement of current manufacturing techniques. Creating documentation (inc. SOPs and EMSs) for CMM, CNC, EDM, Waterjet and Automated operations Provide manufacturing engineering solutions to executional scrap issuesSupport identification and implantation of new manufacturing technology

Responsible for program storage, data back-ups and revision control for Manufacturing equipment

Handling technical problems and respond quickly to internal/external customers

Implementation of capital projects 

Practical problem solving

Design and manufacturingEffectively communicate with internal customers- Engineering, Information Systems, Quality, and all manufacturing departments

The job is based in the Engineering office in Exeter and will have site wide responsibilities 

There may be occasions when support is required in other Howmet locations (HHU)
