Role Overview
The Managing Director of Burton-Taylor will act as a strategic and operational leader—effectively a “mini CEO”—responsible for driving the growth, innovation, and influence of one of the most respected brands in the financial information industry. This individual will oversee all aspects of the business, from research and product development to client engagement, financial performance, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record of leading high-performing, small-to-mid-sized businesses with global reach, particularly in the areas of market data, analytics, or consulting. They will be expected to scale Burton-Taylor’s impact while preserving its reputation for authoritative insight, intellectual rigor, and client trust.
The successful candidate will have had practical experience in creating and leading research functions, as well as holding P&L responsibilities as the divisional head, or CEO in the areas of research, analytics and/or consulting.
Role Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Define and implement Burton-Taylor’s strategic roadmap to maintain its position as the premier source of market data industry intelligence.
Identify and interpret emerging trends in financial markets by conducting regular market analysis and engaging with industry experts across themes in financial markets, market data, media intelligence, and exchange data to shape the firm’s research agenda and consulting focus areas.
Align the company’s strategic direction with the evolving needs of global financial institutions, data vendors, and regulators.
Business Development & Client Engagement
Expand Burton-Taylor’s client base across investment banks, asset managers, exchanges, and data providers by leveraging the firm’s reputation for authoritative insights.
Cultivate long-term relationships with C-level executives and decision-makers in the financial information ecosystem.
Lead high-impact consulting engagements, ensuring tailored solutions that address complex client challenges in data strategy, vendor selection, and market positioning.
Product & Research Oversight
Oversee the production of Burton-Taylor’s flagship reports, including annual market size and share analyses for financial market data, ESG data, and media intelligence.
Ensure the accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of all published research, maintaining the firm’s reputation for data-driven, unbiased analysis.
Drive innovation in research delivery, including interactive dashboards, subscription models, and custom analytics.
Develop and execute a marketing strategy that amplifies the reach and impact of Burton-Taylor’s research and consulting offerings.
Operational Management
Manage internal operations to support a lean, agile, and globally distributed team of analysts, consultants and sales reps.
Implement systems and processes that enhance productivity, data security, and client service delivery.
Ensure compliance with data licensing agreements, intellectual property rights, and industry best practices.
Team Leadership & Culture
Lead a team of subject matter experts with deep domain knowledge in financial data, media intelligence, and regulatory reporting.
Foster a culture of intellectual rigor, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Support professional development through mentorship, training, and exposure to global client engagements.
Financial Oversight
Maintain P&L ownership, with accountability for revenue growth, cost control, and margin optimization.
Develop and manage annual budgets, ensuring profitability across research and consulting lines of business.
Monitor key financial indicators such as report sales, consulting revenue, and client retention.
Identify opportunities for cost optimization and reinvestment in strategic growth areas.
Brand & Thought Leadership
Serve as the public face of Burton-Taylor in media interviews, industry panels, and client briefings.
Contribute to the firm’s thought leadership through authored articles, white papers, and keynote presentations.
Strengthen the firm’s brand as the go-to source for market data intelligence by building strategic partnerships and media visibility.
Experience / Competences
Essential
Proven experience in a senior leadership role within financial services, market data, or consulting.
Strong understanding of global financial markets, data vendors, and regulatory environments.
Familiarity with data analytics tools, market intelligence platforms, and financial modelling.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Track record of driving business growth and delivering strategic outcomes.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field
Desired
Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MSc, or PhD) in a relevant discipline.
Experience working with or within major financial data providers .
Published thought leadership or speaking engagements in industry forums.
Experience managing remote or globally distributed teams.
