Managing Director, Treasury Corporate Finance

 

The Managing Director, Treasury Corporate Finance manages a large cross section of Treasury, including capital management/planning, debt capital markets, corporate finance, resolution planning and capital stress testing. This critical leader is responsible for driving Schwab’s enterprise-wide capital markets funding platform, long-term capital strategy, regulatory stress testing (CCAR), and resolution planning activities. This role ensures the firm maintains resilient capital and funding structures that support Schwab’s distinctive balance sheet and business model, with a focus on regulatory compliance, financial strength, and long-term client value.

Reporting directly into the Corporate Treasurer, this is a highly cross-functional leadership role, interfacing with senior executives across Finance, Risk, Legal, Regulatory Relations, and the business lines, as well as external regulators, rating agencies, and investors.

Capital Management and Planning

Develop, manage, and supervise the capital strategies for the corporation and all subsidiariesLead the firm’s internal capital adequacy assessment (ICAAP) and long-range capital planning strategy.Optimize the capital structure across Schwab Corporation and its subsidiaries, balancing regulatory, economic, and shareholder objectives.Serve as the Chair of the ALCO Capital SubCo and lead the discussions for Capital matters at Corporate and Bank ALCODeliver analytical insight and planning to support dividend policy, equity return goals, and risk-adjusted capital allocation.Create capital return strategies, including dividends and retained earnings management, in coordination with legal, regulatory, and tax teams.Develop forward-looking frameworks to align capital deployment with business growth, risk appetite, and external requirements.Maintain and govern entity-specific capital management policies, contingency frameworks, and Board-approved thresholds.

Key Outcomes

Maintain strong capital ratios (CET1, Tier 1, TLAC) with strategic flexibility.Increase return on capital through efficient deployment and optimization.Integrate capital strategy with enterprise financial planning and risk management.

Capital Stress Testing function

 

Lead the firm’s implementation of a comprehensive capital stress testing program.Oversee the execution of diverse work streams with general oversight and program tools, procedures, resources and quality assurance methodologies to ensure the successfulDirect Schwab’s CCAR process including scenario design, model development, documentation, and governance.Present CCAR results to senior management, risk committees, and the Board.Identify capital vulnerabilities under macroeconomic and idiosyncratic stress events; develop credible remediation strategies.Ensure readiness for and lead responses to all regulatory reviews, including stress testing, ICAAPs, and liquidity/capital planning reviews across entities.Serve as the primary interface with regulators regarding Schwab’s plan and progress to become compliant with capital stress testing program. Effectively communicate a strong understanding of both our strategies and how we execute them.Present to the firm’s Board Risk Committee (BRC) and the Board of Directors on the firm’s CCAR efforts including getting their approval for the Capital Plan.

The Resolution & Recovery Planning function (RRP)

Lead the development and execution of Schwab’s Resolution PlanDefine and maintain credible resolution strategiesOversee liquidity and capital forecasting under resolution conditionsPartner across Treasury, Risk, Legal, Operations, and Business Continuity teams to ensure resolution readiness and operational viability 

Key Outcomes

Timely submission of complete, credible, and regulator-aligned resolution plans.Continued integration of resolution planning into business-as-usual Treasury and Risk processes.Demonstrated execution capabilities in recovery and resolution scenarios.

Capital Markets

Own all aspects of Schwab’s capital markets programs, including long-term debt, preferred equity and equity transactions.Ensure reliable access to markets by building relationships with fixed income investors, dealers, and credit rating agencies.Maintain a long-term funding plan aligned with liquidity risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and Schwab’s operating model.Monitor market conditions, regulatory changes, and peer practices to proactively adapt Schwab’s issuance strategy.Serve as the prime contact with major rating agencies concerning Schwab’s credit ratings.

Key Outcomes

Execute funding transactions within cost, tenor, and structure targets.Maintain investment-grade ratings and transparent investor communications.Support liquidity and capital positions under a range of conditions. What you have

Required Experience:

15+ years of progressive finance experience Treasury, Capital Management, or Regulatory Finance within a regulated financial institution with multiple legal entities.Expertise in bank capital regulation, entity-level capital planning, and stress testing methodologies.Strong grasp of U.S. bank regulatory frameworks (OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC) and familiarity with capital reporting requirements.Proven ability to influence across complex, matrixed organizations and engage confidently with regulators.Strategic yet disciplined, with the ability to balance risk, regulatory expectations, and capital efficiency.Analytically rigorous, with a clear understanding of capital drivers across entities and market conditions.Enterprise-minded and collaborative, fostering alignment across Treasury, Risk, and Business Units.Resilient and clear communicator, skilled at presenting complex issues to executives, Boards, and regulators under pressure.Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field required; MBA, CPA, CFA, or FRM preferred.
