About the Role:
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-performing team of software engineers in building and evolving the core components of Elsevier’s semantic data platform. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring the successful delivery of scalable, high-quality solutions that support knowledge discovery across the scientific and healthcare domains.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, architects, and global stakeholders, to translate complex business needs into innovative technical solutions. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with a passion for mentoring, technical leadership, and driving impactful change.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage Agile squads to deliver robust, scalable software solutions aligned with business goals.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, supporting their growth and development.
Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and methodologies.
Collaborate with product and architecture teams to design and implement core platform components.
Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of projects, managing resources and priorities effectively.
Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and inclusivity within the team.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, especially in AI-driven development.
Oversee performance management, hiring, coaching, and resource planning.
Ensure compliance with healthcare software standards, including auditing and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Proven track record of managing global development teams and delivering complex projects.
Strong technical expertise in SMART on FHIR, AWS, Java, React, Postgres, CI/CD, Docker, Terraform, and New Relic.
Experience in healthcare software development and regulatory compliance.
Excellent project planning, budgeting, and change management skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Passion for fostering inclusive teams and embracing emerging technologies.
