This newly created Madrid based Regulatory Manager position for the Business Enablement GMNS continental Europe team will report to the Business Enablement Director within the legal entity American Express Payments Europe, S.L (“AEPE” or “Legal Entity”), supporting the Global Merchant Network Services (“GMNS” or the “Business”) business and will be in charge of Regulatory Change Management (RCM) tracking, development and governance, represent the Business in its regulatory reporting obligations, own and review first line process and policies and manage and escalate privacy risk. How you will make an impact in this role? It is essential that candidate has an excellent understanding of risk management, the complex regulatory environment in which American Express operates and a knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations, with the ability to develop strong working relationships and to influence delivery and outcomes at multiple levels of the organisation.The new role will be part of the Business Enablement team and as such will work closely with key stakeholders across: Control Management, Operational Risk (GMNS Ops), Internal Audit Group, General Counsel Organization (GCO) and Compliance.
Minimum qualifications The main responsibilities for the role will be:Leadership of RCMs Assess operational impact & build action plan in alignment with compliance and risk advisory. Own changes required. Internal reporting of RCMs: manage internal reporting initiatives from RCMs status and be ready to deliver updates to Control Management and other stakeholders RCM Governance: coordinate the proper governance structure for RCMs and work closely with Compliance and other stakeholders in building a robust governance structure for tracking and updating status of RCMs, escalating high risk and high complexity RCMs as required. Analyzing the regulatory and legal implications for the applicable mandates under RCMs and supporting the Business in its implementation. Regulatory reporting Supporting the regulatory reporting team. Prove business readiness to respond on time and manner to new and ad-hoc regulators requests Support required to escalate and hand over the issues identified when coordinating known reports in cross border markets. Privacy Lead first line implications in privacy and act as business representatives in Privacy related projects and initiatives. Follow up on key privacy risks identified and coordinate efforts from a Continental Europe perspective. Support the Business and the second line risk management teams in privacy risk identification, escalation and implementation of solutions. Policies reviews and refresh processes: Lead the review of first line policies and processes that require business input and/or ownership. Manage the governance around policy refresh and uplifts and ensure first line approvals are properly documented. Preferred Qualifications: University Degree. Legal background would be a plus. Proven experience in designing and implementing regulatory change including analysis of regulation, risk assessment, design of policies & procedures and monitoring programs. Knowledge of data protection regulations and privacy risk. Extensive knowledge of the Business and risk advisory. Comfortable in regulatory environment with a clear understanding of the complex regulatory environment in which AEPE operates. Attention to detail and rigor given the complexities involved in the content Ability to build and leverage relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders Ability to challenge and take decisions independently when required. Proactive attitude with a business approach when addressing problem-solving situations. Decisive Self-starter with high degree of accountability, able to multi-task and prioritize across diverse and rapidly shifting or contending internal and external requirements. Ability to develop relationships with leaders, peers, and control and compliance teams. Previous exposure to regulatory and policy compliance activities with a strong control mindset. Fluency in English and Spanish, both verbal and written is a must. Additional language skills are a plus. Employment eligibility to work with American Express in Spain is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
