Research is one of the tenants of the Cleveland Clinic and helps put patients first by providing access to cutting edge therapies. Cleveland Clinic Children's is an inclusive supportive team providing world-class care for our youngest patients. As a Pediatric Research Program Manager, you will manage the comprehensive administration of clinical trials, including both pre- and post-award activities. This role ensures compliance with all requirements of internal and external reporting agencies while overseeing the coordination and execution of pediatric research studies.

This caregiver works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Oversee the organization, compliant execution, and financial operations of research projects and assigned program areas.

Assure quality and safe patient care throughout the research process.

Anticipate and resolve patient care and study issues by serving as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, outside study personnel and central research administration offices.

Assist in protocol interpretation, enrollment and safety questions.

Collaborate with principal investigators, sponsors and research staff to plan, conduct, evaluate and track project protocols.

Monitor study progress, report on milestones and develop action plans as needed.

Participate in process improvement activities, strategic planning and operational implementation to enhance program performance.

Analyze site strengths and weaknesses to support protocol feasibility and the selection of qualified investigators and sites.

Assist with preparation for and response to internal and external audits.

Provide sponsors with forecast schedules and progress updates based on milestones and contractual obligations.

Supervise research personnel, ensuring orientation, training, performance management and career development.

Oversee the development of training materials and education for research staff, fellows and team members in study execution and management.

Support principal investigators in research study design and protocol development when needed.

Supervise and coordinate budget development for research projects.

Negotiate industry-sponsored research budgets as appropriate.

Lead research subject recruitment and data management.

Develop and evaluate recruitment and retention strategies, including marketing approaches, to maximize enrollment.

Identify, contract and manage relationships with outside vendors supplying services for studies.

Serve as a primary contact for investigators, regardless of funding source, to facilitate project development, processing and approval routing through central research administration offices and systems.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Science or a related field required and five years of progressively responsible health care, research, or other relevant supervisory or managerial experience

Knowledge of budgeting, cost analysis, manpower planning, supervision and operational analysis

Must successfully complete certification in Human Subjects Research (HSR) as required by the Responsible Conduct of Research guidelines adopted by the Cleveland Clinic within 90 days of hire

Administrative experience

Knowledge of budgets and grants

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Advanced degree in health care, science or business (may offset some of the experience requirements)

Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) Certification

Clinical research background

Research experience (clinical/human subject experience)

Experience pre- and post-award management with sponsored programs such as building and negotiating study budgets and tracking accounts payable

Experience with CTMS systems

Experience in direct management of research personnel

Physical Requirements:

A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer. 

Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. 

Extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds. 

May have some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

May require working irregular hours.
