The Role:

Reporting to Treasury and supporting the Accounting function, the Payroll Compliance Manager plays a vital role in ensuring that all employees are paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Success in this role means owning the end-to-end payroll cycle, proactively managing tax compliance and reporting, and driving cross-functional collaboration with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers. A successful candidate will bring deep multi-state payroll expertise, thrive in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, and be known for precision, confidentiality, and a service-first mindset.

Payroll & Compliance Oversight:

Accurately process bi-weekly payroll for a 3,000+ employee population across 25+ states using Workday or similar systems.Manage payroll funding, garnishments, arrears, and wellness incentives in partnership with Treasury.Ensure compliance with FLSA, SIT, SUI, Paid Family Leave, and emerging legislation.Maintain proper tax setup for all employee locations, including remote work and state reciprocity.

Audit, Reporting & Controls

Lead payroll audits and contribute to SOX controls as a subject matter expert.Prepare and maintain detailed audit trails for tax amendments, returned checks, and payroll adjustments.Run and analyze payroll reports to support internal reviews, legal inquiries, and compliance needs.

Time, Absence & System Management

Administer Time, Pay, and Absence modules in Workday; maintain calendars and accrual logic.Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding time off, transitions, and policy questions.Collaborate with HCM team to troubleshoot and improve payroll-related systems functionality.7–10 years’ progressive payroll experience; healthcare and/or publicly traded company exposure preferred.Multi-state payroll (10+ states) and 2,500+ employee payroll experience required.Workday or comparable enterprise payroll system experience required.Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with accuracy.

Education and/or Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or GED required.CPP certification is strongly preferred (or currently in process of attaining).
