Manager Engineering Test Lab

​The Manager Engineering Test Lab will manage, coordinate and participate in the work activities of the engineers and technicians within the testing and applications and test lab area.

 

Responsibilities:

​Maintain ISO 17025 Accreditation for Klein Tools Lab and satellite facilities. Manage lab test equipment and directly lead progression of lab test capabilities. A key aspect of the role is to focus priority on providing meaningful test result data that keeps projects on schedule. Train engineering staff to use test equipment and systems efficiently and effectively. Manage and direct the activities of support staff, monitor and appraise performance, and counsel staff as needed. Participate in selecting new employees for hire. Review and recommend raises and promotions for existing employees to department manager. Assist engineers in preparing qualification test plans, design and build test fixtures, run tests and create test reports. Work with the engineering staff to plan and develop any specialized equipment, internal testing procedures, or external laboratory relationships that would be unique to Klein Tools product testing needs. Provide observations to help interpret test results and provide analysis to product development teams.  Assist in acquiring third party test lab certifications for newly developed products. Perform competitive product testing and manage inventory of all test samples consistent with current retention period guidelines. Lead the development of standardized lab test methods and processes. Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and five (5) years of direct work experience in the area. Must possess excellent technical, analytical, planning and organizational skills.  Demonstrated experience facilitating complex projects and solutions with multiple interactions. Conflict resolution skills and demonstrated team leadership experience. Must have strong oral and written skills with the ability to present both technical analysis and financial based justifications allowing further decision making within all levels of the organization.

  ​Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
