Role Definition
Manages engineering for design and development of machine Electrical and Electronics system which include software specification development and Software Integration test.
JOB DUTIES:
Reporting to this position are various levels of engineers, technologists, and support personnel in one or more geographic location. The incumbent needs to coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved. Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical.
Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills. Position also requires highly developed people skills for coaching and leading people. Ability to draw upon and ever increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies - Be Strategic, focus on Enterprise, Global Leadership, Lead Change, Hold Self and Others Accountable, know your Customer, Build Engagement, and Coach for Development.
The incumbent would set strategy at the section level. The section would solve problems for one or more technology, component, product, or process.
Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus to a broader, multi-systems focus and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding. Challenges include increased competitive pressure, increasing project complexity and customer demand.
Therefore, the ability to draw upon foundational Electrical and Electronics Systems development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention, and requirements management is required; as well as, ever increasing skill in technical project management, development of Electrical and Electronics Systems, internal and external requirements management, and cost-value management. The ability to draw upon knowledge of more than one engineering function, technology, component, system, product, or process is required. This role requires that the incumbent increases understanding of Electrical and Electronics Systems product technology and process and the customers’ business and needs.
To make decisions, this position will work with immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, typically impacting one or more product(s), process(es), or factory(ies).
Decisions may impact an entire product, process or factory and may affect warranty, sales, customer perception, and could have effect of evolutionary change to technology and its application in products or processes at Caterpillar through technology and core competency. The incumbent has primary accountability for operating expense budget.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
1. Typically, this position will require an accredited Engineering degree with 13 to 15 years of Electrical and Electronics experience.
2. An advanced degree is highly desired.
3. Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
4. Have a good teamwork and communication skills
