The American Express Corporate Segment Controllership organization is looking for a proactive, energetic, and dedicated finance and accounting professional that can integrate well into a high performing and dynamic environment.  The appropriate accounting, controls and reporting for the Company’s compensation and benefits programs.  We are looking for someone who demonstrates success in operating efficiently across varying tasks and deadlines with strong communication, collaboration, and people-leadership skills. We ensure the appropriate planning, accounting, financial reporting and controls for the retirement plans, shareholders' equity activities, and earnings per share (EPS), and the Company’s incentive and stock-based compensation, benefit programs in the United States. We advise business partners on new or changing business activities. We focus on developing financial control and risk governance processes, proactively identifying process efficiencies, and raising overall financial control awareness in the business. We play a meaningful role in the external reporting for the Company, including in SEC, Federal Reserve and other statutory filings, earnings announcements and legal entity financial statement disclosures.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Spearhead the design and implementation of innovative financial processes that enhance operational efficiency, reinforce governance, and empower data-driven decision-making. Collaborate cross-functionally to develop agile and streamlined close processes that adapt to evolving business needs. Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and reporting processes for retirement and benefits plans, shareholders’ equity transactions, and earnings per share (EPS) calculation - ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting and strong internal control environment. Provide accounting and control guidance for new and evolving business activities, including analysis, financial reporting, planning, and forecasting within areas of responsibility. Ensure compliance with financial reporting policies, regulatory requirements, model governance standards, and third-party management protocols. Conduct risk-based control reviews and accounting assessments, including SOX control testing and documentation. Manage account ownership and reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy, transparency, and integrity across financial systems. Support P&L analytics and balance sheet reviews to identify and address emerging risks and issues. Partner with Treasury to support Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) activities. Contribute to external reporting efforts, including SEC, IFRS, earnings releases, and disclosures related to assigned areas. Serve as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors, maintaining a strong financial control focus across end-to-end processes to proactively identify and mitigate risks.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of proven accounting and financial experience. Exceptional verbal and written communication skill Strong relationship building and collaboration skill Proficient in US GAAP and application of accounting standards Commitment to working in a team environment to achieve results. Strong problem solving/analytical skills and impeccable attention to detail. A flexible, results driven individual with the ability to lead and influence without authority. Ability to design and implement process efficiency enhancements  Organizational skills with the ability to meet/exceed deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously Strong financial control focus, requiring ability to proactively understand and identify risks from an end-to-end perspective

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Compensation, Finance, Accounting and/or stock plan administration in a global company preferred. Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field strongly preferred. Ability to synthesize, manage, and interpret large data sets highly desired CPA/MBA or equivalent strongly preferred

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
