International Risk and Control sits within International Card Services (ICS) which comprises of all the issuing functions across all 28 international markets excluding the US - colleagues operate across a variety of geographies and disciplines. The objective of the ICS Governance & Control (IR&C) teams is to enable safe, sound and sustainable business growth, and to support our International Legal Entities to deliver on their control and compliance obligations.
How will you make an impact in this role?
We are seeking a UK based Risk Manager to join our IR&C Business Conduct team to support the roll out and ongoing governance of our Business Conduct Program. This role will report to the Business Conduct Integrity Director.
Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the existing monitoring program of work as part of the AEMP88 and CFI requirements across the international markets by partnering with GS to ensure monitoring activities are performed effectively and in a timely manner. Partner with GS leadership to ensure up to date knowledge, retraining and awareness of the Standard Operating Procedures and monitoring requirements to mitigate gaps and issues. Build strong relationships with Business Conduct regional leads to ensure effective oversight of the monitoring and QA program. Ensure effective and accurate identification and tracking of gaps & issues that occur within the monitoring program by partnering with Business Conduct regional leads within the market and GS to support resolution. Direct report management of colleague performing quality assurance (QA) testing on GS monitoring activities Identify opportunities to drive improvements to QA testing program to improve consistency and quality of the monitoring activities, ensuring QA process and procedural documentation is well maintained and updated. Management of the Business Conduct Risk Change Forum to ensure oversight and strong governance for change requests across the various BC workstreams. Provide input and share themes and learnings among BC team to drive consistency across the program and markets to maintain the overall health of the monitoring program and adherence to AEMP 88 and CFI standards. Program management capabilities - program management capabilities and good organizational skills with ability to prioritise and pivot across multiple areas. Collaboration - Strong collaboration skills and ability to positively work through conflict. Excellent Relationship and stakeholder management skills - Rapidly build trust & credibility with strategic stakeholders including but not limited to; Regional IR&CO Business Conduct workstream and execution leads, Market Control Management experts, Sales and Account Development teams, Colleague Labour Relations (CLR), General Counsel employment teams, International Field Enablement (IFE), Regional and Local Compliance officers, Privacy and strategic counterparts in other business units. Decisive Self-starter with high degree of autonomy and accountability, demonstrating an intense will-to-win. Confidence in decision-making in complex and ambiguous situations; comfortable troubleshooting and aligning conflicting interests in a professional outcome-focused manner. Strong MS Skills - Proficient in MS Tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Problem solving - Ability to navigate across functional areas / geographies and work through roadblocks using established networks, negotiation skills and through the development of compliant solutions. Communication – Delivery of impactful communications (clear, concise & meaningful - both written and oral) for multiple audiences / levels of seniority. Driving results across cross-functional teams without direct authority to ensure that strategic uplift plans are implemented, and local oversight infrastructure is established and maintained. Risk mindset, Aptitude to operate within a policy and process driven environment. Comfortable navigating a complex, fast paced environment, often with strict deadlines, high degrees of ambiguity and Compliance / regulatory commitments. Degree of flexibility with time given the international remit of the role.Preferred Qualifications
Experience preferably in Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, Operational Risk, or a related discipline.Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the UK is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
