Short Description

The Grants Accounting Manager oversees all post-award financial management activities related to sponsored research projects. This includes ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, monitoring expenditures, preparing financial reports, and supporting principal investigators (PIs) with grant budgeting and financial analysis.

 

Financial Oversight -Manage all post-award accounting activities for sponsored projects. -Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, invoices, and reports to sponsors. -Monitor grant budgets and expenditures for compliance with sponsor and institutional guidelines.

 

Compliance -Maintain adherence to federal regulations (Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200), sponsor requirements, and institutional policies. -Oversee effort reporting and cost-sharing documentation. -Coordinate audits related to grants and sponsored programs.

 

Leadership & Supervision -Supervise grants accounting staff, providing training and performance management. -Collaborate with the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs and departmental administrators.

 

Process Improvement -Develop and implement policies and procedures for efficient grant accounting operations. -Identify and resolve issues related to grant billing, reporting, and closeout. Prepare annual survey requests related to research areas, including the NSF HERD survey. Prepare and review annual Federal Indirect Cost Rate applications. Promote compliance with federal and state regulations by maintaining current regulatory knowledge, reviewing institutional policies, and recommending policy and procedure updates.

Experience Required Minimum 5 years of experience in grant or sponsored program accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.Experience in sponsored project (post-award) administration or professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures and preparing financial reports.Strong knowledge of federal grant regulations and compliance requirements. Proficiency in accounting systems and ERP platforms.(Infor a plus) Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA preferred).

Special Requirements

Experience with research administration systems (e.g., Banner, Workday, PeopleSoft). Familiarity with F&A cost principles and indirect cost rate calculations.
