What is the opportunity?

The Manager, Valuations will act a control function to perform Independent Price Verification (IPV) and other Valuation Adjustments (VA) for RBC’s fair value inventory. The Manager will design and maintain a robust valuations environment to ensure fair value compliance, as well as ensure fair value estimates are accurate, timely and representative of traded markets.

What will you do?

Assist the Associate Director in the successful completion of IPV and VA calculation processes relating to derivatives financial instruments for a dynamically hedged complex business.

Leverage and develop knowledge of financial markets, products and quantitative background to evaluate IPV results and support resolution of IPV differences. Ensure IPV issues outside accepted tolerances are reported and dealt with promptly

Explore market data sources for the best measure of fair value on the financial instruments. Contribute to consensus services submissions

Ensure that existing VA/IPV processes continue to be aligned and keep pace with the business, and Regulator and Accounting Best Practice

Provide detailed reports and analysis to RBC regional valuations committees, business heads, senior managers and Heads of Valuations, Market Risk and Finance on VA/IPV results.

Communicate with Front Office and/or related counterparties to explain IPV/VA results and/or month over month movement. Follow the coordination of solutions in partnership with product controllers, front office, market risk and other internal groups

Develop new and enhance existing Valuation policies, including methodology and procedure documentation and sources of external market data, ensure that all VA/IPV processes are complete and follow RBC’s risk policies and procedures

Challenge existing IPV methodologies, working practices and improve data quality and processes

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

Post Graduate degree in a quantitative area

5 years relevant experience with derivatives

Advanced knowledge of VBA

Strong understanding of valuation processes and impact

Good written and verbal communication skills

Nice-to-have    

Knowledge of Python and database tools such as SQL 

Knowledge of Bloomberg and other financial analytics software
