**Purpose:**
The position is chiefly responsible for assisting in the completion of the month-end, quarter – end, and year-end financial accounting close process. The position is also responsible for assisting in the preparation of audited and unaudited financial statements and disclosures, participation in new business initiatives, local management reporting including business line, committee and Board level financial presentations.
Contributes to the overall success of US Finance ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
The role has responsibility to ensure that information and data quality standards in accordance with the enterprise technology and data management standards for accurate, complete, and timely financial information. The incumbent also has responsibility to develop and maintain strong financial reporting, information quality, and MIS disciplines.
**What You’ll Do**
• Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Assist with ad hoc projects, issues, and urgent deliverables.
• Responsible for assisting in the coordination of the monthly financial close and accurate presentation of the audited financial statements for the CUSO. Includes exercising judgment based on precedents and leveraging multifaceted information.
• Develop and maintain strong financial reporting, information quality, and MIS disciplines in order to provide key internal and external stakeholders with the information needed to make decisions.
• Cross trains and shares industry knowledge with the team.
• Partners with accounting policy in researching new accounting changes and guidelines to ensure the U.S. Entities are reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
• Enhance existing reporting practices by benchmarking activities against best practice and industry peers.
• Liaise with internal and external auditors and regulators, and assist with quality assurance reviews, internal audits, and regulatory examinations.
• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Collaborate with the key business support partners in learning and gaining an understanding of the business that’s supported, to become effective at ensuring the team is getting the numbers right.
• Provide guidance in New Product initiatives or business strategies to ensure CUSO remains in regulatory compliance while growing its business activities.
• Become an agent of change in assisting in bringing alignment and consistency to the U.S. Financial reporting practices and centralizing reporting across the U.S. region, including:
- Monthly Close
- Financial Statement Preparation
- Control Sign-offs
• Assists the team in creating an environment in which the overall team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
**What You’ll Bring**
• Finance or Accounting Degree Required
• CPA preferred
• 5-10 years of relevant experience in Financial Reporting or relevant
• Strong knowledge in financial accounting (U.S. GAAP and IFRS regulations), regulatory and other complex accounting principles, P&L reconciliations.
• Knowledge of annual financial statement preparation and financial controls
• Skilled at implementing reporting with a system of controls.
• This position requires a strong understanding of banking business, capital markets financial products and transaction mechanics.
• Strong analytical skills and an internal control mindset.
