The team you will be a part of

The Manager of Trade Compliance will work as part of the Transportation and Trade Compliance team, collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. This position is responsible for meeting the compliance and operational needs across the organization with a focus on compliance first and then balancing service and cost. This includes working closely with Whirlpool's internal customers, customs brokers, and 3rd party logistics providers to manage the company's inbound and outbound logistics network. Internally, the role requires cross-functional collaboration with government relations, legal, and global strategic sourcing and other internal process partners. The Manager will also oversee and guide both internal team members and external partners responsible for trade compliance.

The Trade Compliance Manager role is based in Benton Harbor, MI, and reports to the Sr. Manager Trade Compliance.

Your responsibilities will include Oversight of daily border clearance with Brokers & junior team membersAssignment of Harmonized Tariff Codes (HTS) & approve the assignments of analystsFree Trade Agreement QualificationForeign Trade Zone operational oversight  to include audits of entry clearanceData Management and management of special Customs processes (e.g. Valuation Reconciliation)Support accurate financial reporting (Outlook, P4G, Profit Planning, Financial Close)Conduct regular internal audits and assessments of trade compliance practices to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in compliance with import/export regulationsContribute to management systems refinement and methods to continually improve governance and data availabilityEngage with Procurement commodity teams, as well as process partners in Supply Chain, Government Relations, and Engineering, with reporting requirements to Sr LeadershipEnsure compliance with all U.S. and Canadian import/export laws, including preparation, review, and submission of accurate customs declarations, shipping documents, responding, and reporting to government agencies (CBP, CBSA, etc.), while keeping abreast of evolving trade regulationsMaintenance of Whirlpool’s status in US Customs programs, including C-TPAT program, to maintain “best in class” supply chain security practices with heightened security and awareness throughout the supply chain for the shipment of finished goods, components, and service partsMinimum requirements 5+ years of experience in Trade Compliance with familiarity/expertise to include tariff classification, duty assessment and/or country of origin determinationExcellent Communication SkillsStrong Analytical & Problem-Solving SkillsStrong proficiency in the Google suite of tools & Microsoft Suite of toolsProject Management ExperienceBachelors degree Preferred skills and experiences Licensed Customs BrokerProficiency in Trade Compliance Software & ToolsKnowledge of Audit and Enforcement PracticesKnowledge of SAPExperience in the broader supply chain and/or Procurement is a plusAn individual should be adaptable to a fast-paced and demanding environmentDemonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and lead process partners towards a common goalAbility to establish and build strong relationships with process partners in GSS and Government RelationsUse problem-solving skills to find new and creative ways for process improvement and cost reductionDetail-oriented, but also able to see the "big picture" Additional information
