About the Role:

The PR Manager for AU/NZ is responsible for: Lead the development and execution of Subway ANZ’s digital marketing strategy to drive brand growth, guest engagement, and commercial performance across digital channels. This role is responsible for optimising the end-to-end digital ecosystem - including media, CRM, loyalty, eCommerce including 3PD- to deliver a connected, data-driven, and high-performing digital experience

Planning and Strategy

Develop, implement and manage brand PR communications efforts for ANZ, working alongside the broader marketing team to ensure PR is an integrated part of campaign execution across all ATL channels. Ensure PR activities are aligned to the broader Marketing and Brand strategy, as directed by the Director of Marketing Build and foster relationships with various publics including media, members of the community, partners, public affairs offices, non-governmental organisations, consumer advocacy groups, etc. for the benefit of Subway Monitor media coverage of the restaurant/food/consumer sector to be able to anticipate trends and opportunities.

Execution and Activation

Secure impactful earned and owned media exposure; measure impact and communicate results. Activation support – attend events, organise food and/or merchandise, finalise creative deliverables, oversee third party activation staff. Must be available to travel interstate and to New Zealand as required. Research, write, and/or edit communications materials, including (but not limited to) press releases, pitches, fact sheets, Q&As, briefing materials, talking points, key messages, emails, social media posts and presentations. Work with the Head of Brand, Director of Marketing and Managing Director to serve as the releasing authority for information to the public and/or news media from the brand in AU/NZ as it relates to Public Relations Act as Media Spokesperson for the brand as and when required

Social & Influencers

Work with brand agencies (eg. Aruga, Tonic, Zenith, Publicis) to select appropriate influencers to promote Subway products and campaigns. Research and vet creators, write content briefs and manage in-restaurant filming arrangements. Manage content reviews and edits, giving final approval in collaboration with relevant Subway Legal/FSQA/Marketing representatives as required. Monitor and react quickly to social trends, comments or tags in collaboration with Subway’s organic social team. Manage and monitor the Subway Australia and New Zealand LinkedIn pages in collaboration with the Internal Communications Manager

 

Issues and Crisis Management

Protect the brand by managing and mitigating external risks. (This may include but is not limited to managing negative media or social media coverage, supporting with escalated guest care incidents, working with Territory Teams on in-restaurant incidents that have the potential to generate publicity) Working with the Global Communications team on issues or stories with international impact. (i.e. corporate media releases, global CSR topics, issues that have the potential to cross borders)   Control the brand narrative and community response to external issues including drafting and preparing media holding statements, community management responses and guest care Q&As

Corporate and Social Responsibility

Work with government and industry bodies to understand new regulations taking effect and new policies being proposed to determine the potential brand / business impact Advocate Subway’s position to appropriate industry groups (i.e. National Retail Association) to inspire change and communicate key updates to internal stakeholders Develop mandatory corporate reports such as the APCO Packaging Report and the Modern Slavery Statement in conjunction with the appropriate departments

Management, Team & Administration

Manage AU/NZ PR and Activation agencies to ensure goals and KPIs are met Work collaboratively with a cross-functional teams including marketing, legal, guest care, internal communications, operations, development and the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team Work collaboratively with Territory Teams to assist in rolling out PR campaigns and activations Accountability for Australia and New Zealand PR campaign budgets Various other administrative tasks as required for PR execution and management

 

Skills and Abilities Required

Bachelor Degree in Public Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field Minimum of 5+ years of experience in public relations in a corporate or agency environment; must have a proven track record in all aspects of securing and managing high quality/high volume media coverage.  Exceptional writing skills (technical, creative, effective) Fluent in written and spoken English. Proven ability to handle sensitive issues and crises under pressure and provide sound counsel to management Self-motivated, proactive, and hard-working, with strong problem solving, creative thinking and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of the media and news landscape in Aus/NZ. Professional demeanour with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders from Sandwich Artists to the CEO. Team player with the ability to work with a diverse team operating in 113 countries. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Experience working with global organisations - QSR or fast casual chain restaurants and/or franchise model businesses a plus. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of social media and emerging channels. Working knowledge of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles and regional hot topic issues
