We are currently seeking a Manager, Public Affairs to support our U.S. diabetes care business, based in Alameda, California, helping to lead media relations and communications activities for the world-leading FreeStyle Libre portfolio of continuous glucose monitoring systems. This position will report to the Director of Public Affairs for Abbott’s North America diabetes care business. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, nimble, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes ambiguous environment. They will have the ability to concurrently manage multiple, high-profile projects and PR campaigns across a matrixed organization that includes supporting the needs of the business and corporate endeavors. They should be passionate about consumer technology and its impact on human health and a strong writer and storyteller in consumer, tech, and health, and has a proven track record of obtaining top-tier media placements. They will work strategically and collaboratively with various key stakeholders, across the business and with corporate teams. **Job Responsibilities:** + Work directly with the Director, Public Affairs for Abbott’s North America diabetes care business and other colleagues in the business and corporation to develop communications and media strategies + Work extensively with press and, on occasion, will serve as spokesperson for brand + Successfully pitch and work with a wide variety of reporters – from industry trade publications, consumer media, and top tier outlets – to understand their needs, develop talking points for interviews with the media, prepare interviewees with media training, staff interviews, and provide a synopsis of both the interview and final coverage + Monitor and analyze media coverage and public perception of Abbott's diabetes products, initiatives or issues, and work under tight deadlines that may go beyond normal business working hours to accomplish + Work with influencers and content creators, being the daily PA lead to strategize, develop and manage content creation from start to finish across social and digital + Enhance the visibility of the Libre brand and the company through strategic communication and competitive positioning while also protecting the company’s reputation + Develop strategy and programming by overseeing the execution for PR and social media programming for product launches and business development projects + Be the day-to-day contact with public relations and communications agencies that support projects, including but not limited to social media influencers and PR campaigns. + Represent Abbott in public forums and events, effectively communicating the company's message and values **Education and Experience:** **Required** + A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, business, marketing or related field + 6+ years of experience in public relations, media relations and/or communications, with a deep understanding of how to use external communications to enhance reputation + Working relationships with a variety of U.S. media with a proven ability in placing media stories and managing relationships across the technology, lifestyle, consumer and business media verticals + Strong experience in developing compelling communications materials and content to be used across owned and earned channels + Ability to manage time effectively and work both independently and collaboratively and exhibit strong project management skills **Preferred** + Experience in consumer, healthcare, and/or technology communications Experience in working in a regulated environment + Experience working on thought leadership and understanding of maintaining corporate reputation + In-depth experience working with and counseling senior management with the ability to exhibit strong judgment and executive presence + Able to achieve results while dealing with ambiguity, discretion, and a rapid pace of change + Proven experience in leading digital, social media influencer, and other external facing projects to build brands + Understanding of how to work within a matrixed organization and get things done and not hesitate to be proactive and find colleagues to help get answers + Ability to communicate persuasively and influence others + Relationship building: ability to form authentic and effective relationships both inside and outside the organization The base pay for this position is $112,000.00 – $224,000.00.
