Position reports to Director, Rail Procurement. Manage day to day and longer-term rail procurement and operational activities for mills and plants in the US and Canada. Procure containerboard and inbound commodity rates in a timely fashion to support sales and operations requests and communicate results. Support Freight Audit and Pay to resolve any rate discrepancies.
How you will impact WestRock:
Manage all procurement activities and rail operations for facilities as assigned.Manage rail carrier relationship accounts.Responsible for rail service performance and case resolution.Oversight for all mill/pant/Warehouse dwell and demurrage issues in the assigned region.Manage system support for audit and disputes of monthly chargesNegotiate favorable private demurrage agreementsManage rail rate requests with support from the Rail Analyst for the assigned region.Support and complete annual outbound national RFPNegotiate and manage recycling paper rates and equipment supplyComplete and assist with daily empty railcar pipeline and appropriate distribution.Insure uninterrupted car supply for all millsProject managementAnalyze low-cost modes between Rail, Intermodal and Truck to benchmark Rail network and find savings opportunities.Conduct rate audits to match railroad tariffs to WestRock systems.Support RFP Team with rail rate management across Enterprise.Assist Freight Audit & Pay with any invoicing/billing issues between WestRock and the railroads.Ad hoc identification of cost reduction opportunities and areas to improve operational efficiency across the assigned region.Assist Rail Analyst with Diversions/Rebills/EDI issues as needed.Maintains rail route guides and rate tables and ensures consistency throughout various systems.Rail Tariff Management and Knowledge ResourceSupport rail track safety applicationsWhat you need to succeed:
One to three years of rail experienceFour to six years of logistics experienceBachelor's degree in supply chain management is preferred. Ability to manage rapidly changing deadlines and priorities.Able to clearly and effectively communicate with peers and upper management.Strong analytical skills required.Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point Skills.Negotiation experienceApproximately 20-25% travelWhat we offer:
