Duties:
Lead the sites Laboratory, Technology and Business development teams and its competence management. Build, provide and manage high technical expertise in area of metallurgy, process analysis and development, trouble-shooting and process knowledge. Ensure consistency in tools, methods and operating procedures. Specialize in Ilmenite smelting, iron treatment and slag granulation in order to provide expertise support and continuous improvement. Provide expertise for problem solving, technical sales support, R&D and product development. Support in internal technical training resources, training content, certification and training plans and execution in co-operation with Learning & Development. Manage Quality, Environment, Health and Safety according to company guidelines. Manage Audits (internal & external) and certifications for current and future quality systems. Participate in technical claim and warranty handling. Ensure that Technical Knowledge Management (related work instructions, resolution database, fault statistics, technical community) is developed in own area. Liaise with potential service providers to service laboratory equipment. Compile and control annual budgets for his area of responsibility. Oversee all HR related matters relevant to his department. Participate in community development and related activities as and when required. Compile complex technical reports related to the various processes. Conduct research work in order to initiate process changes and benchmark best practices. Manage and maintain the smelter MES (Manufacturing Execution System). Evaluate and interpret process data. Manage the furnace process through his team of metallurgists. Qualifications & Experience:
14 years of relevant post graduate experience within a process industry (ideally metals processing industry; e.g. smelters or integrated steel plant) of which 5 years in a middle management role. Masters or Post Graduate qualification in a specific discipline or MBA Skills:
Proven track record for leading a team of chemists and metallurgists/chemical engineers. Setting up and maintaining strict quality, SHE and process control standards. Excellent leadership skills in managing a multicultural team of engineers and scientists. Proven management capabilities in a complex process industry. Proven hands-on project management capabilities in a business improvement environment Exposure to open arc pyro metallurgical processes, industrial water quality management and material handling processes. Good technical knowledge of refractory materials, pyro metallurgy, slag chemistry and ilmenite smelting electrode granulation and metal treatment Strong business and innovative skills and capabilities Ability to live and promote a collaborative culture Problem solving skills Ability to manage large conceptual entities Ability to work under pressure and tight timelines still maintaining high quality Willingness to learn something new every day Experience in operations is seen as an advantage.
