Job Description

Reporting to the Director, the Manager will provide all aspects of Canadian international tax support to the Brookfield Property Group (BPG). 

Responsibilities

Assist with government tax audits relating to international tax queries; this may include tax research, drafting complex and in-depth responses, and communicating directly with Canada Revenue Agency audit team members
 Assist with the international tax components of the quarterly tax provision and financial statement audits
 Collaborate with internal departments (legal, finance, and technology) and external service providers (accounting and law firms) in preparing T1134 information returns, T2 corporate income tax returns, and various tax elections. Responsibilities include providing information related to foreign affiliate transactions, and conducting a thorough review of a high volume of forms
 Collaborate with internal departments (legal, finance, and technology) and external service providers (accounting and law firms) to prepare surplus computations, ACB computations and excluded property analyses; this includes providing detailed information on past transactions and detailed review of the computations
 Analyze and document the Canadian tax implications of foreign affiliate transactions, including review of financial statements, legal documents, cash management considerations, and detailed steps plans
 Provide timely responses to regular ad hoc questions and requests from various internal and external teams related to international tax
 Participate in special projects relating to tax technology and automation
 Stay current with changing tax laws that may impact BPG transactions and structures
 

​Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of international tax specialization in a large corporation, major accounting firm or law firm
 Proficient knowledge of Canadian Foreign Affiliate rules (FAPI, recharacterization provisions, surplus regime, ACB and excluded property) and experience in reading and interpreting the Income Tax Act
 Completion of Chartered Professional Accountant, LLB or Master of Taxation is preferred
 Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to describe complex tax concepts to various non-tax audiences in a clear and concise manner
 Detail oriented with strong organization skills
 Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
 Self-motivated and proactive with respect to managing workload and professional development
 Skilled in the use of excel
