What Government Relations contributes to Cardinal Health
The Government Relations team is responsible for ensuring that Cardinal Health’s views are represented as public policy is taking shape and that our voice is present in local, state, and national healthcare discussions.
The Manager, Government Relations serves as a key member of Cardinal Health’s Government Relations team. Reporting to the Director, Government Relations, this role will implement and communicate federal and state policy positions on issues that impact Cardinal Health’s businesses, customers, and the broader healthcare industry. The Manager, Government Relations will directly engage with Congress, state legislators, federal agencies, and trade associations; advise internal stakeholders on policy trends; and represent Cardinal Health in coalitions and industry groups.
Responsibilities
Strategy: With the Government Relations team, plan and execute a comprehensive, proactive government relations strategy to advance Cardinal Health’s mission and goals with elected officials and applicable government agencies. Serve as a liaison between Cardinal Health and federal and state legislators and staff to support the Cardinal Health enterprise.
Policy Analysis: Monitor, evaluate, and interpret federal and state legislation and regulations impacting Cardinal Health; identify emerging issues; assess potential implications; and recommend strategies to mitigate risk or leverage opportunity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Government Relations, Regulatory, Legal, and other business units to monitor and evaluate proposed legislation and regulations, while identifying public policy issues, assessing the impact on Cardinal Health and our stakeholders, and developing recommendations and/or recommended solutions.
External Collateral: Prepare substantive written materials for meetings and follow-up action items. Prepare letters, testimony, and memos in collaboration with other Cardinal Health representatives, trade associations and stakeholders to achieve acceptable language.
Internal Materials: Support team efforts to share policy updates with internal and customer audiences. Responsibilities may include: drafting talking points, presentation slides, newsletter articles, and public speaking.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred; advanced degree in public policy, law, or related field preferred.
5 years of relevant experience, including significant engagement with the federal legislative and regulatory process preferred.
Proven track record of developing and implementing advocacy strategies and influencing policy outcomes.
Deep understanding of healthcare policy, including familiarity with Congressional committees, federal and state agencies, and key stakeholder organizations.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information for varied audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships across political and professional lines.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Anticipated salary range: $131,400 - $168,840
