Fund Accounting Manager Location: Onsite, Norfolk, Virginia Corporate Office JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for managing the team responsible for the accounting functions related to various alternative investments (including first mortgage loans, mortgage-backed securities, preferred equity, and mezzanine loans) and closed ended credit and/or equity funds. Responsible for coordinating with internal HGI teams, such as tax, financial reporting, and the business teams and external teams, such as our auditors, tax CPA firms and fund administrators. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by Harbor Group Management. + Review month-end closeout and monthly financial package with supporting schedules for multiple fund entities and structures + Review the recording of originations, purchases, sales, and securitizations of the investments + Review billing statements and invoices + Review legal documents (LPA, side letters, etc.) to determine and track reporting requirements for new fund entities + Review management fee calculations against legal documentation support + Review quarterly distribution analysis and coordinate with Investment Management on cash available to distribute, including cash needed to pay fund level expenses + Manage communication with external CPA firms to provide information required for audits and other engagements + Supervises quarter end and year end deliverables ensuring all deadlines are met. + Provide guidance and training to senior and staff fund accountants + Attend meeting on new business transactions or fund activity to inform the accounting team of upcoming transactions + Respond to various requests from internal and external stakeholders + Assist in the documentation, updating, and creation of accounting/finance SOPs + Work on various special projects MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Public accounting experience is preferred. Experience working in private equity, fund accounting or real estate investments a plus + Previous experience with Yardi, MRI, or other accounting systems a plus + Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook & PowerPoint; very strong Excel skills along with ability to learn new accounting system + Strong knowledge of fund accounting Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment + Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills + Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively + Excellent interpersonal & communications skills, both verbal and written; ability to communicate with external sponsors and investors PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
