About the JobThe Manager of Software Engineering will lead a software engineering teams, including external vendors, focusing on Brightly’s Platform collaborating with other Platform engineering leaders. This strategic role involves driving the transformation of enterprise products, leading distributed engineering teams across global locations, and modernizing products while reducing technical debt. The Manager will ensure high-quality, scalable, and reliable engineering projects, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. This is a pivotal opportunity for a leader to bring their experience, business acumen, and development philosophies to the role.

What you will do Oversee the transformation and modernization of the Platform microservices architecture. Manage a team of software engineers, supervising project execution and their work to ensure output quality, and supporting collaboration and growth. Serve as an intermediary between technical execution and business strategy, applying technical expertise, project management, and leadership skills. Develop and implement engineering strategies in line with product and business goals and priorities, ensuring alignment with overall objectives. Facilitate communication and collaboration with product, design, quality assurance, and operations teams to synchronize software projects with company objectives. Recruit, mentor, and manage engineering teams, providing guidance, performance reviews, and professional development opportunities. Review and approve technical product designs, changes, and enhancements. Promote a culture of engineering excellence across global functions. Supervise the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects to meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Offer technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff, ensuring access to necessary resources and support. Foster innovation within the engineering department by exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance products and services. Work with stakeholders, including product, design, marketing, and sales, to support alignment and achieve project goals. Ensure performance, scalability, and quality standards for microservices. Manage engineering budgets, allocate resources efficiently, and optimize resource use. Develop and apply global engineering policies, standards, and procedures. Support recruitment, retention, and development of engineering talent throughout the organization. Provide career development and mentorship initiatives to team members. Lead the integration from regional development teams to unified global engineering groups. What you need 8 years in software, with 4+ years of technical leadership and team management Extensive experience designing and delivering distributed systems Strong background in system architecture and agile, object-oriented development for high availability Skilled in engineering team building, hiring, and performance management Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences What makes you a Standout Knowledge of applications, APIs, Infrastructure-as-Code concepts, containers, serverless computing, cloud environments, platform architecture, and SaaS architecture Background in agile methodologies, cloud-native development, and DevOps practices Experience with technical debt reduction and system modernization Cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management experience Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail Understanding of software and infrastructure cost dynamics Proficiency in technologies such as Java, .NET, RedHat, AWS, ETL tools, front-end frameworks, Github Copilot, and Jira The Brightly cultureWe’re guided by a vision of community that serves the ambitions and wellbeing of all people, and our professional communities are no exception. The pay range for this position is 146000 - 198000 annually with a target incentive of 15 of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
