Compensation

Compensation includes a base salary of $119,600.00 - $199,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Job Description

We’re looking for a strategic Software Engineering Manager to lead engineering efforts focused on building and managing custom data solutions for our internal operational data sets.  The teams focus on ingesting operational, infrastructure, and security data into Snowflake, enabling Cox Automotive to enhance its observability, resiliency, and intelligence.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a strategic Software Engineering Manager - Data Engineering & Observability to lead engineering efforts focused on building and managing custom data solutions for our internal operational data sets.  The teams focus on ingesting operational, infrastructure, and security data into Snowflake, enabling Cox Automotive to enhance its observability, resiliency, and intelligence.

This role blends technical direction-setting with people leadership. You’ll guide engineering teams in designing scalable data solutions, represent their work to stakeholders, and ensure alignment with business goals. Your leadership will help drive data-driven insights that improve how we understand and operate our platforms.

Your Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

Lead, mentor, and empower data engineering teams.Foster a culture of servant leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Set technical direction and represent the team’s capabilities to stakeholders across the organization.

Technical Oversight

Guide the design and implementation of scalable data ingestion pipelines and data modeling solutions.Ensure alignment with business goals and architectural standards.Provide technical insight and leadership during off-hours when engineering teams are active.

Collaboration & Communication

Partner with stakeholders across IT, Security, Infrastructure, and Operations to understand data needs and deliver impactful solutions during US Working hours.Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences to advocate for the team’s work and value.

Business Impact

Drive improvements in observability and resiliency across Cox Automotive’s platforms.Enable data-driven decision-making by delivering high-quality, reliable data solutions.Help the organization better understand its strengths and weaknesses through intelligent data modeling.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 4 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year experience in a related field; or 18 years’ experience in a related field.3+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.Experience with Snowflake and AWS in a data engineering context.Strong understanding of IT operational data systems and data modeling practices.Excellent planning, prioritization, and decision-making skills.Knowledge of AI implementation for support of engineering practices and product road mapping.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing distributed or offshore teams and working across time zones.Demonstrated success in leading strategic data initiatives.Ability to balance technical depth with people leadership.
