Manager, Colleague & Labor Relations - Greater China

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express. **How will you make an impact in this role?** The Colleague & Labor Relations Manager (CLR Manager) for Greater China is responsible for providing employee and labor relations advice to the Greater China markets; Hong Kong, China and Taiwan markets. Reporting to the Vice President for C&LR APAC, this role will be responsible for proactively defining and executing the Colleague & Labor Relations Strategy for Greater China. The CLR Manager will partner closely with the broader Colleague Experience Group. The ideal candidate is an experienced CLR Manager, or Employment Law professional with a proven track record in their field, with superior CLR knowledge and expertise in Greater China. **Key responsibilities will include:** + With the use of data, making informed decisions and build business connectivity by proactively partnering with the One Colleague Experience Group, people leaders and employees + Design and execute Colleague & Labor Relations strategy for Greater China ensuring alignment to global goals, business goals and people objectives + Proactively identify and guide people leaders on employee performance matters through performance improvement plans, disciplinary hearings and/or termination + Handling complaints, investigations and grievances. Consult with business leaders and CEG partners to implement reductions in force + Offer consultative services on all employee relations related matters. Define and apply strategies to prevent harassment, discrimination, retaliation and other forms of inappropriate workplace conduct + Anticipate change, manage and help set expectations by determining what key colleague- affecting policies should look like + Develop the ER capabilities of business leaders by effective delivery of training + Ensure CLR data integrity and leverage data and insights to spot trends and identify issues + Captures and reports on identified issues to address cultural related matters. Define and execute remediation plans through training, policy and process enhancement, working closely with the business and the One CEG community and through overall thought leadership + Create a safe environment for employees to raise complaints and help drive a culture of coming forward without taking an advocacy position + Actively participate in the APAC and Global Colleagues and Labor Relations Community + Demonstrate proactive thought leadership in the interpretation of current and pending employment legislation and its possible impact to the AXP business + Build and maintain relationships with Country Executive Team, Business Leaders, Colleague Strategic Partners and other relevant internal/external parties + Work in partnership with relevant stakeholders to effectively implement strategic initiatives/projects, where there is an ER impact + Where relevant, manage and coordinate the due diligence activities and ER impact of complex business changes and divestitures by ensuring full compliance with local laws and regulations **Preferred Qualifications:** + A track record of success within a highly matrixed multi-national environment + Experience of ER/Employment Law; or an HR Generalist with a strong ER focus + Excellent knowledge of Hong Kong, China and Taiwan employment law context + Ability to operate on a matrix environment and negotiation skills + Strong interpersonal and communication skills proficiency to liaise with all levels of management, and to produce presentations and reports as a tool for strategy formulation and implementation + Ability to focus both on explicit detail and the broader implications of issues + Proactively identify linkages/partnership opportunities to enhance overall ER experience and customer service + Strong Commercial acumen + Cantonese and Mandarin language capability.
