Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Manager, Airport Groundside System Planning to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.

Job Summary: 

The Manager, Groundside Systems Planning, plays a key leadership role in the development and implementation of strategic groundside facility plans and policies. This position ensures that future transportation and infrastructure needs are aligned with projected demand through comprehensive planning, analysis, and coordination. The role also involves close collaboration with internal departments and external transit agencies to optimize airport landside operations and ground transportation systems.

Major Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Controls:
Oversee the preparation of monthly financial reports, journal entries, and related documentation; perform month-end closing activities for purchasing and inventory; and support quarterly and annual audits in coordination with financial teams.

Project Management – Ground Transportation & Landside Infrastructure:
Lead the planning, development, and delivery of groundside infrastructure projects. Manage consultant and contractor performance, oversee project lifecycles from initiation to implementation, and coordinate with transit authorities and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with airport strategies.

Strategic Planning & Operational Analysis:
Conduct demand forecasting, simulation modeling, and capacity analysis to support data-driven decisions. Provide actionable insights through business cases and cost-benefit evaluations. Oversee data collection and analysis to enhance the effectiveness of landside facilities and operations.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communications:
Develop and present planning reports and recommendations to senior leadership, external agencies, and regional partners. Ensure alignment with broader regional transportation plans and represent the organization in public forums and planning discussions.

Team Leadership & Development:
Lead a high-performing planning team by setting strategic direction, providing mentorship, and promoting a collaborative, safety-focused culture. Ensure all planning activities align with organizational values, client objectives, and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum: 

University Degree in Engineering, Planning, Aviation Management + 10  years of experience in Airport/Transportation planning, operations, or business strategy, including 2 years of leadership.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education (for example, a College Diploma + additional years of experience) may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

A degree in Transportation Planning, Airport Planning, or Engineering is preferred.

Accreditation with the International Association of Airport Executives (IAAE) is considered an asset.

5 years of direct leadership experience managing high-performing teams, with a demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and drive results.

5 years of hands-on experience in data collection and analysis, process improvement, statistical analysis, and simulation modeling.

In-depth knowledge of airport landside and ground transportation systems, including capacity planning, operational logistics, and facility management.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills, especially in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.

Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, presentation, and negotiation—with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders and influence without formal authority.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel capabilities; experience with simulation modeling tools is essential.

Understanding of aviation industry trends, air travel forecasting methodologies, and socio-economic factors influencing demand is considered an asset.

Proven success in customer-focused environments with a strong emphasis on relationship building and stakeholder engagement.

Strategic thinker with flexibility and adaptability; able to maintain a long-term perspective while managing evolving priorities.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Security Clearance and hold a valid driver’s license.
